My husband was just transferred to Lancaster. He's been in the hole at Corcoran for the past 9 months, so today when he called my cell phone I almost fell out of my chair!! Of course cell phones can't accept collect calls so all I got to hear was that he's at Lancaster and him saying his name.

Anyway, I was wondering if someone could please tell me how things are over there. Lots of drama (I mean more so than usual), long lock-downs? Do they have all the programs that are listed on the facility site, ie; graphic arts, arts in corrections, auto repair? Advise on their dress code would be nice too.

Thanks so much!

I've been visting there since April. Yes, lots of drama, they have lots of lockdowns, but at least they often allow visiting even during lockdown. The main thing about visitng is the LONG wait, cars start lining up at 5:30 am and if you get there later than 10 or so you might not get in at all. They search your glove box and trunk going in AND out, so keep 'em as empty as you can! That's one reason the line is so long.

Dress code is about the same as everywhere else, there's a Friends Outside trailer with loaner clothes if you need them. They check the bottom of your feet, which I thought was funny. But don't laugh, they're pretty serious.

It can be REALLY hot or really cold and you have to stand around the parking lot a long time just to get into the visitor processing room! So the trailer is nice for waiting. They have those short kiddie table in the visiitng room and your man is not allowed to walk around. It's a real stampede to get to the vending machines, I did not like that at all.

Some days visiting was pretty mellow, other times the guards were uptight. But mostly ok.

I don't know about programs, my guy is leaving soon. I'm going for the last time this weekend. Other visitors are VERY nice and helpful and so are the guards at the front gate, they've always answered my questions in a friendly way.

Do you know what level yard he would be on? The level 4 visiting you have to take a bus to the different buildings on the inside of the gate. You may want to call and see if he can have contact visits too. If not you will have to make an appointment. Then you would come an hour before your appointment and they will let you through. I've been visiting there now for 2 years on the level 1 yard but I have been on the inside buildings when he first was processed and once when he got into some trouble. It's a longer process to get into the other buildings and the guards are more uptight but there are some that can be really nice.

Can you explain what you mean by drama? Here in Idaho nothing ever happens, but my brother in law was just moved to LAC from Vacaville. He is one of those who doesnt have to find trouble it pretty much finds him.

Anything you can tell me about the facility in general would be great

By drama, unfortunately I mean there are lots of lockdowns, visitors caught trying to smuggle contraband, etc. I'll answer more in your other post on this :)
