SHAKEDOWN AT DOOLY STATE PRISON
Searches Continue for Contraband

Atlanta - The Special Operations Unit of the Georgia Department of Corrections conducted a shakedown at Dooly State Prison on Tuesday, November 9, 2004.

Twelve tactical squads, along with 15 drug dogs, swept the prison looking for contraband and excess property. Small amounts of marijuana were found, as well as several homemade shanks and tattoo guns. Of the 70 inmates randomly tested for drugs, thirteen tested positive and will receive appropriate disciplinary action.

"These shakedowns enhance our ability to achieve our mission of keeping the public and our prisons safe," stated Corrections Commissioner James E. Donald.

Dooly State Prison, located in Unadilla, is a medium-security prison and houses approximately 1,214 inmates.
