View Full Version : Update on Prop 66 Absentee Ballot count
freedom anjel 11-08-2004, 11:33 AM Just received this in my e-mail this morning. Do not know the person, so I cannot comment on the validity of the info., but I will not pass on the opportunity to keep hope alive.
"Despite every media organization having had their funeral for Prop
66, there are well over a million ballots still to be counted. Less
than a third of those have been counted. According to a contact in
the Sec of State's office, the numbers coming in are STRONGLY in
favor of passing 66 (by a nearly 4-1 margin).
If this lead holds up, Proposition 66 will be declared the official
winner in the next week or 10 days. You can do the math... We were
only down by about 500,000 votes on Wednesday morning! I predict we
win by a few hundred thousand votes.
I think God has spoken, and has done so in a way to teach the
Governor not to commit the sins of pride and arrogance.
CAN'T SOMEONE IN FACS/CACV/ACLU leadership get some media attention
to this remarkable turnaround???? Everyone I talk to says they
thought 66 was dead."
Have a blessed day!
MizzCandy 11-08-2004, 11:43 AM Bonnie,
I pray to God that this is true, while I have been hearing the same thing, I thought maybe it was just rumors! But this is building my confidence back up that this battle is far from over!
Keep Praying to God!!!
Lord,
I know that you will is done, and what will be shall be, you have already had this in your plan and we have the faith in you to to continue on your mission! In your holy name we all say Amen!

PRESS RELEASE
CONTACT: MATT GRAY, 916-444-5551
SUPPORTERS OF THREE STRIKES REFORM
VOW TO CONTINUE THE FIGHT
One week after the narrow defeat of Proposition 66, supporters of reforming California's unjust "three strikes" law vow to continue their fight.
"The result of the election is tragic, especially since the voters against Prop. 66 were swayed by outright misleading statements by the Governor and others about the numbers of people who would be released from prison," said Senator John Vasconcellos (D-Santa Clara). "Once again the prison industrial complex rides high, wastes money, and does little to improve public safety. We will continue to fight to reform our awful Three Strikes Law in smart ways which profoundly reform prisons so our Department of Corrections can live up to it's name."
"It is clear that 4.5 million Californians want sweeping changes to the three strikes law, and we will honor their wishes and keep fighting in their behalf," said Lenor Nunez, Treasurer of Fix Three Strikes / Yes on 66 committee.
"The Governor was clearly on the wrong side of the issue here and seems to recognize he has alienated 4.5 million voters, misled the rest of them, and now looks like just another of the guards' union sellout Governors," says Matt Gray, Director of the Voters Corrections Reform Coalition. "The fact that the courts had to step in to tell the opposition to ‘stop citing such misleading figures' should have been an early indication that he had gone too far. But that lesson was lost as the opposition's campaign ended up being a shameless showing of just how far empty fear based manipulation can go at the polls."
Supporters of three strikes reform are urged to stay involved. For more information on how to be part of this effort, call 916-290-1871, and leave a message with your contact information, or write to Fix Three Strikes, P.O. Box 163330, Sacramento CA 95816

Kathy 11-09-2004, 11:14 PM RECEIVED THIS FROM ANOTHER GROUP:
As of 11:19 this morning we're trailing by 644,278 votes.
The numbers are:
Yes - 4,730,824
No - 5,375,102
Diff - 644,278
Unfortunately, the trend is not looking positive. From Nov. 5th to Nov. 7th, we picked up 6,749 votes but after the 7th, the trend started going against us. From Nov. 7th to Nov. 8th we dropped 15,305 votes and from Nov. 8th to Nov. 9th, we dropped 18,902 more.
I will redo the count twice a day at 12 noon and 6 p.m.
My source is the Secretary of State website. I have no idea where the 4 to 1 came from. Perhaps from one county? I'm looking at the state as a whole.

Information shown below: Summary | Fiscal Impact | Yes/No Meaning | Official Information | Arguments |
Should the "Three Strikes" law be limited to violent and/or serious felonies? Permits limited re-sentencing under new definitions. Increases punishment for specified sex crimes against children.
Summary Prepared by Attorney General:
Amends "Three Strikes" law to require increased sentences only when current conviction is for specified violent and/or serious felony.
Redefines violent and serious felonies. Only prior convictions for specified violent and/or serious felonies, brought and tried separately, would qualify for second and third "strike" sentence increases.
Allows conditional re-sentencing of persons with sentences increased under "Three Strikes" law if previous sentencing offenses, resulting in the currently charged felony/felonies, would no longer qualify as violent and/or serious felonies.
Increases punishment for specified sex crimes against children.
Fiscal Impact from the Legislative Analyst:
Over the long run, net state savings of up to several hundred million dollars annually, primarily to the prison system; local jail and court-related costs of potentially more than ten million dollars annually.
Meaning of Voting Yes/No
A YES vote of this measure means:
The current "Three Strikes" sentencing law would be amended to require that a second and third strike offense be a serious or violent felony, instead of any felony, in order for the longer sentences required under Three Strikes to apply. The state would be required to resentence "third strikers" whose third strike was nonviolent and nonserious. In addition, prison sentences for specified sex offenses against children would be lengthened.
A NO vote of this measure means:
Current sentencing law would remain in effect, requiring offenders with one or more prior convictions for serious or violent felonies to receive longer sentences for the conviction of any new felony (not just a serious or violent felony). In addition, prison sentences for certain sex offenses against children would remain unchanged.

simplycindy 11-20-2004, 02:03 AM I can't believe those who voted no on 66. My husband had a strike from 1986 before the three strikes was even thought about.Residental burglary, he took a leather jacket from a someone who owed him money. It was in a camper in the backyard not even in the house. Needless to say we never got the 2000.00 owed, but my husband got the strike.Took a plea on that and a drug charge combined. then in 1994 arrested on possesion of 1 gram cocaine. 2 doubled at 80% plus one year enhacement for prior thats 6 years. was clean for a couple years back slide. now 6 months ago he was arrested on another drug charge 3 doubled 80% plus two year enhacement.thats 8 YEARS. If they think they are putting away violent people they are WRONG. Just had to get my frustrastion out, I am so upset!Thank Arnold! my daughter will be out of high school by then. He need treatment not PRISON! Thank you all for listen to me rant, lol
simplycindy 11-20-2004, 05:28 AM spoken wrong no enhancemet first time just 3 doubled
simplycindy 11-20-2004, 05:51 AM the victim in this is his cousin who is veryyyyyy srry he did that to my husband. to late STRIKE. the next day the victim went to the police said "i did not want to press charges"
they said then we will charge you with filing a false police report. he was 19 at the time. scared dropped it, because he was my husbands drug buddy. now he is srryyyyy . Is it to late? never thought about a strike. when my husband got the first 6. i told him it was because of your charge. if he could go back to 1984 he would but that is what the three strikeds does

Kathy 11-21-2004, 10:50 PM Dear Supporters
Proposition 66 has gone down to defeat, but the battle to Restore Three Strikes to the original intent of the voters continues.
Due to your great efforts, discussions have begun in the press, among legislators, activists and District Attorney’s about ways to solve the problems with Three Strikes.
First, I want to thank CAVC Chairman Joe Klaas. Joe waged a ten year battle to see this law changed, and despite some painful disagreements with his son, stood by us.
Joe has resigned from the CAVC Board. He decided to “retire” at the ripe young age of 84. We wish him many years of rest, relaxation and continued good health. We are planning to close our office, but this does not mean that the fight will not go on.
Please join either amend3strikes@***********.com or Reform-Calif-Three-Strikes@***********.com to keep in touch with ongoing activities. We expect a bill will be introduced in January of 2005.
To get involved to help pass that bill and other related item go to www.correctionsreform.com.
Again, our heartfelt thanks to you and yours for your hard work. While Proposition 66 was defeated, we succeeded in creating a new and more hopeful debate about Three Strikes.
The fight is not over. Keep up the pressure.
Jim Benson
Chairman Citizens Against Violent Crime.
Mrs.L 11-23-2004, 12:57 PM Just so you guys know, Jim is a very nice guy and had no personal interest in Prop. 66 passing (no family that would have been affected). He worked tirelessly to try and get this prop. passed! If there is anything that we can still do we should all do what we can, if interested. It takes people like Jim and all of the rest of us to get stuff like this done. If there is a bill to be introduced those that are affected should remain active. The present three strikes law NEEDS to be changed no matter what happened with Prop. 66:thumbsup:
LukLuv 11-29-2004, 04:49 PM Did I miss something guys? Last time I was here, the margin was much greater than it is now. It looks like we are behind by 615,961 votes as of 2:31pm today. Whats going on? When will the vote be finalized? I know that the margin isn't as great as we'd like, but lets not give up hope just yet. If I offend anyone, I'm sorry, but the optomist is me can't let go of this. As was said earlier, we'd be more than happy to see this thing take off and have us win by even one vote.
Don't lose faith, hope is all we've got!!!
