Last night I was reading some old posts and came across one that had some rules of the parole board. It said something to the effect of "every 8 months your case would be reviewed (reference to being released before max out date). So J was given 5 do 2. Went up in July and was denied they didnt talk to him just denied him, parole board says he want come up again he will max out. So what does the every 8 month review mean?

What was he convicted of? I know that GA has a 90% rule for violent offenders. Although I have heard that many don't do the full 90%. Also, when they say max out are they referring to the 5 years or the two. How long has he been in?

He has been in for one yr. They said he would be released on his max date which was 2 yrs. Violent I say yes he says no. Parole board says that dont know what I am talking about when I mentioned the 90 % rule.

The Georgia Parole Board does not meet with the inmate. There is an article here somewhere that I posted about this. They actually pride themselves on being one of the few parole boards in the US that does not meet with the inmate, they "investigate" and make the decision on their own.

What do they investigate? Do they just look at the inmate's file or do they talk to people too. Who do they talk too. Also in regards to every 8 months, will they automatically review an inmate again in 8 months or will the inmate have to request another review? I'm curious. And maybe it's a good thing that the parole board does not know or maybe they just don't pay attention to that 90% law.

What I meant in the first post was he didnt even know until i called and heard it on the recording that his case was being reviewed. The counselor didnt tell him, he wasnt asked if he a job, residence or whatever.

They do not contact the inmate.
The Parole Board will contact the inmates counselors, people involved in the crime, liek the attorney, DA, etc.
They review the paperwork in their file from the court hearing, arrest, evidence, etc.
They also take into consideration letters that are written from family, friends, employees, Pastors, etc.
They may contact the person that the inmate plans on living with when they are released and speak with any family that makes phone calls to the PB.
