Okay...forgive me...I'm confused. LOL I saw on the news earlier today that Alabama had an Earthquake early this morning (they said it measured a 4.0) close to Union, Alabama. Umm...I didn't think Alabama had Earthquakes  Did anybody hear about this (or feel it)??? My dad said it woke him up but...I didn't feel it. I just wanted to post and see if I was going crazy (or if my family is going crazy). Did this really happen?? Is this the first time it's happened??? I'm just "blown away" by this...I honestly didn't think it was possible.

Selena, there have been earthquakes here before. There was one up near Ft. Payne last year, I believe. I don't know where Union is....but I wish I could have felt it! I would like to experience a "minor" one.

I am going to go search the news....I like to read stuff like that. Thanks for telling...

I couldn't find anything about today's earthquake...here is a story of a previous one.

Earthquake rattles some; no injuries, damages reported
August 21, 2004

BIRMINGHAM | A magnitude 3.5 earthquake rattled Jefferson and Shelby counties Thursday night, startling some residents, but apparently causing no damages or injuries.

Carolyn Bell, spokeswoman for the U.S. Geological Survey in Colorado, said the quake occurred at 7:51 p.m. EDT and was centered 10 miles southwest of Alabaster and 25 miles southwest of Birmingham.

“It’s going to cause some glasses to shake on the shelves, but will not cause structural damage," Bell said.

The Jefferson and Shelby County Sheriff’s Departments had received no calls of injuries or damages late Thursday night.

Valerie Thrash, an officer at the state Emergency Management Agency, also said there had been no reports of damage.

Alabama recorded one of the biggest earthquakes in its history on April 29, 2003 -- a 4.9 quake near Fort Payne that was felt in Birmingham and all the way to Troy.

I've actually slept through an earthquake here in Denver. Golden, which is just west of Denver sits right on a fault line. I've slept through tornado's, earthquakes, a hurricane once. I've even fallen asleep at a Pantera concert!! I can sleep anywhere it's insane!!

I heard on my local news that there was an earthquake Sunday morning in west central Alabama. I live only 20 minutes from Livingston, AL and they 'SUPPOSEDLY' felt it there. The Sumter Co. sheriff was on the news saying something about it was the 2nd one this year (?). I live just across the state line in Mississippi and did not feel anything though.

But - NO you are not crazy Selena - at least not for this reason!:p

LOL Kat...thanks! I mean...I knew I was "crazy" or gettin' there but, I thought "okay...now I've really lost my mind" LOL I, personally, didn't feel anything but, my dad said it woke him up but, he tends to "over-react" sometimes. :D

We had an earthquake in GA last year about 5:00 AM. I thought a plane had hit the house. lol
Selena your not crazy sweetie, actually this area is on a fault line that runs across Lookout Mountain, so earthquakes are possiable.
I'm glad you didn't feel anything hon, it's very scary.
love ya

A friend of mine summed it up nicely for me. Anyplace there are hills and/or mountains means there has been an earthquake and so there could possibly be another one.
