I joined this form primarily because I am seriously considering establishing a friendship with someone in prison via one of the online penpal websites.

Is there anyone here who could give me some advice about the best way to do this?

Also, if any of you have a friend in prison who may need a friend, let me know.

I am a male looking to make friends with a female.

if you decide to correspond with an inmate, I would make your first letter simple and introduce yourself. If you find an ad that interest you then write to that person. Know that if it doesn't work out it is like out here don't let it discourage you from writing to someone else.
treat it like you would a relationship out here. Don't let someone try and use you and ask you for money.
I write several 100 inmates and my first letter is always simple and short about who I am and what I want from a friendship.
