Hi,

First, I want to thank all of you for the wonderful support you offer. Since my fiance' was incarcerated 2 months ago, I have turned to you for advice. Thank-you!

This is my first post - I'm sure one of many. My questions are about Gowanda Correctional Facility. I have been there a few times all ready. My questions revolve around the DWI program. Here are my questions:

1. He has not started his program yet. About how long does it take to start? He has been in Gowanda for about 3 weeks (county and Elmira for the previous few weeks).

2. After completing the DWI program, what happens? I know he is a minimum security risk (I think that's what they call it - all I know is that he is classified as 'minimum'). Does he get sent to work release? Does he get sent to a minimum security prison?

We met after his last DWI. I miss him terribly! Any information any of you can provide would be greatly and most appreciated.

More info: this is his 2nd time at Gowanda. He is serving a felony DWI sentence of 1.5 - 4.5 years.

Welcome to PTO, I don't know the answers to you're questions. Have you called his counslor (sp?) They might be able to give you the info. you're seeking.

No, he doesn't have a counselor yet. He is still in 'general population'. He hasn't even been moved to the DWI side yet.

Is it okay to call his counselor once he gets one? Have you had experience with Gowanda?
