Philemon 6 - I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ. (NIV) Sometimes you really don't know the value of what you have until you share it. That's true of your connection to God, too. What is something you've learned by sharing your faith with someone else?

James 1:3 - For when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. (NLT) You never really know what you stand for until someone or something tries to push you over. You never really know what you believe until it costs you something. Give God thanks for the tests in your life. How has your faith been tested? How did you do in the test?

Hebrews 12:1 - Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily hinders our progress. And let us run with endurance the race that God has set before us. (NLT)

Do you hear them? Maybe not. Perhaps you're too tired. Perhaps you're distracted by feelings of loneliness and defeat. Listen. There's a crowd cheering you on -- so don't give up. Who are the "fans" in your life who inspire you to finish the race?

Psalm 119:11 - I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. (NLT)

People memorize all kinds of things without much effort -- baseball statistics, song lyrics, facts that might show up on a test, the way your boss likes his coffee. What about things God wants us to know? Try memorizing today's verse and reciting it out loud at breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

2 Timothy 2:4 - No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs -- he wants to please his commanding officer. (NIV)

Soldiers must focus on what their commanding officer orders. They might be involved with civilians, but their first priority is accomplishing the mission they've been assigned. Christians, too, have been given a mission: to make disciples and teach them to obey God. Is the mission your first priority, or are you too involved in civilian affairs?

Jeremiah 20:18 - "Why was I ever born? My entire life has been filled with trouble, sorrow, and shame." (NLT)

Sound familiar? When things go wrong for you, you might forget that plenty of good has also happened to you. How do your perspective and mood change depending on what happens to you? How can you keep them level?

John 15:16 - [Jesus says,] "You didn't choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name." (NLT)

You are chosen. You have a mission. And you are fully equipped to succeed in that mission. What fruit would you like to see more of in your life?

Mark 8:29 - Then Jesus asked, "Who do you say I am?" Peter replied, "You are the Messiah." (NLT)

At some point, all of us will be asked this question. Maybe here on earth; definitely when we stand in front of God. In either case, it would be good to have an answer ready. Who is Jesus to you?

Job 2:9 - His wife said to him, "Are you still holding on to your integrity? Curse God and die!" (NIV)

Sometimes those closest to you try to keep you furthest from God. Maybe you are jealous of a loved one's close relationship with God. Try to include friends and family in your connection to Him. How have family or friends kept you from God, on purpose or by circumstance? How can you include them in your relationship with Him?

Isaiah 11:3-4 - He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. (NIV)

Fair judgment requires eyes that see past first glances. Only God can know what is just in every situation. How have you judged this week? How have you been wrong in your judgments?

Jesus was saving the world by dying on the cross, yet people said they would believe in Him only if He got down! Maybe you find yourself thinking you know a better way to be saved. Maybe you should just let Jesus do the saving. In what ways have you been trying to save yourself?

James 1:15 -- These evil desires lead to evil actions, and evil actions lead to death. (NLT)

The Chinese character for the word "sin" is constructed by putting the words "four" and "wrong" together. The word "four" is derived from the four errors which led to the birth of sin: listening to evil, looking at the forbidden fruit, desiring in thought, and eating the fruit. What are the signs of sin in your life?

1 John 4:18 -- Perfect love expels all fear. (NLT)

You fear what you don't understand, and you can't love what you fear. So in order to love other people, you must seek to understand them. Who in your life is not like you? How can you start to understand and show love to this person today?

Christianity does make a difference in people's lives, but the change might not happen all at once…. In what ways are you "not the same anymore," after talking and listening to God?

Colossians 4:6 -- Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. (NIV)

Verse of the Day for February 8, 2005

Matthew 6:34 -- [Jesus says,] "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." (NIV)

Verse of the Day for February 9, 2005

1 Timothy 2:5 -- For there is only one mediator who can reconcile God and people. He is the man Christ Jesus. (NLT)

Verse of the Day for February 10, 2005

Philippians 3:10-11 -- I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. (NIV)

The most important thing in life is to know Christ. The best way to get to know Him is to read the Bible and talk to Him in prayer. What is something you have learned about Christ this week?

Verse of the Day for February 11, 2005

Exodus 35:35 -- "[God] has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work as craftsmen, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers -- all of them master craftsmen and designers." (NIV)

As a painter uses many colors to create a masterpiece, God uses many gifted people, including you, to accomplish His cosmic design. Do you consider yourself a gifted person? Why or why not?

Verse of the Day for February 14, 2005

1 Corinthians 13:7 -- Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. (NLT)

True love has very little to do with candles, flowers, and warm, fuzzy feelings. True love is tough. It hangs on. It lasts. What do you do when you start to feel bored with a relationship? What should you do?

Verse of the Day for February 15, 2005

Matthew 6:19-20 -- [Jesus says,] "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy." (NIV)

People say, "You can't take it with you !" But they are wrong. There will be treasure in heaven, and we have to start storing it there now. What are you doing to make sure you will have treasure when you get to heaven?

Verse of the Day for February 17, 2005

Jeremiah 1:5 -- [God says,] "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." (NIV)

Verse of the Day for February 18, 2005

Ephesians 4:28 -- Those who are stealing must stop stealing and start working. They should earn an honest living for themselves. Then they will have something to share with those who are poor. (NCV)

Feeling good about your wealth and possessions comes when you do good with your wealth and possessions. Why do you make money? What do you use it for?

Verse of the Day for February 19, 2005

Philippians 1:6 -- God began a good work in you, and I am sure he will continue it until it is finished when Jesus Christ comes again. (NCV)

Sometimes you may feel like a failure. Sometimes you may feel like a flop. But God is not finished with you. He's got great plans for you. Looking back at your Christian walk, what progress can you see?

Verse of the Day for February 20, 2005

Matthew 24:46 -- [Jesus says,] "If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward." (NLT)

Your highest goal is to be a good servant. It doesn't seem like a lofty career plan, but you'll be happy when the Master tells you you're doing a good job. Are you ready for the Master to return and examine your work?

Verse of the Day for February 21, 2005

1 Samuel 16:7 -- [God says,] "...The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." (NIV)

No amount of dieting, primping, shopping, or styling can make God love you more than He does already. When God looks at your heart, what does He see?

Verse of the Day for February 22, 2005

Romans 8:16 -- For his Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that we are God's children. (NLT)

You may doubt it at times. You may not feel it at times. You may think you do not deserve it at times. But somewhere in your soul there is a voice whispering, "You are my child." When have you heard God whisper your name this week?

Verse of the Day for February 23, 2005

Habakkuk 3:17-18 -- Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior. (NIV)

It can be deeply disappointing to invest in something for a long time, and then find out it doesn't produce. When this happens to you, how does it affect your relationship with God?

Verse of the Day for February 24, 2005

Isaiah 44:22 -- [God says,] "I have swept away your sins like the morning mists. I have scattered your offenses like the clouds. Oh, return to me, for I have paid the price to set you free." (NLT)

You may have said or done things in the past that left you feeling ashamed. But Christians live for the future instead of in the past. God has invited everyone -- even those with bad track records -- to turn to Him and be set free. What offenses and sins do you need to let God sweep away?

Verse of the Day for February 25, 2005

Proverbs 25:16 -- If you find honey, eat just enough -- too much of it, and you will vomit. (NIV)

Sometimes less is more. Perhaps the good things of life taste better when they come around less frequently than we would choose. What can you do without today? What can you do with less of today?

Verse of the Day for March 1, 2005

Exodus 14:14 -- "The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still." (NIV)

Is that all? Just be still? Yes. Calmly trust and hold your peace. That's all you need to do to see Him go to work for you. Usually, you are just in the way when you try to take things on yourself. When was the last time you really let yourself be still?

Psalms 1:1-2 -- Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with scoffers. But they delight in doing everything the LORD wants; day and night they think about his law. (NLT)

It's a good idea for husbands and wives to read the Bible and pray together every day. You learn a lot about each other when you talk to God together. Do you have a consistent time of talking and listening to God with one other person?

Verse of the Day for March 7, 2005

Jeremiah 6:16 -- This is what the LORD says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls." (NIV)

Every crossroads represents a decision: Keep going in the same direction, or turn. Sometimes it’s hard to tell which is best, but often there are clues along the way. Are you on the right path? How can you tell? Whom could you ask for direction?

Verse of the Day for March 8, 2005

Matthew 28:19-20 -- [Jesus says,] "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (NIV)

Wow -- Jesus chooses to use ordinary people like us to change the world. Are you a disciple of Jesus? Are you making disciples? Are your disciples making disciples?

Verse of the Day for March 9, 2005

John 3:3 -- In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again." (NIV)

Luke 16:11 -- [Jesus says,] "So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?" (NIV)

Do you want more money? Do you want more influence? Do you want more opportunities? Do you want more friends? Do you want more responsibilities? Do you want more? Maybe God is waiting to see what you do with what you already have before He gives you more. How well are you managing what you have?

Verse of the Day for March 15, 2005

Amos 5:23 -- [God says,] "Away with your hymns of praise! They are only noise to my ears. I will not listen to your music, no matter how lovely it is. Instead, I want to see a mighty flood of justice, a river of righteous living that will never run dry." (NLT)

You may spend time trying to get your songs and prayers to sound right, but God will not accept your praise if your life isn't righteous and just. Spend time with Him; confess your sins; keep Him first. Then your praise will sound right, because it will be right. How does hypocrisy in your life affect other people?

Verse of the Day for March 16, 2005

Colossians 1:17 -- He existed before everything else began, and he holds all creation together. (NLT)

Verse of the Day for March 18, 2005

Proverbs 25:2 -- It is God's privilege to conceal things and the king's privilege to discover them. (NLT)
