NOVEMBER 2

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

Today's Encouragement from the New International Version is taken from 1 John 5:13; 1 John 3:14; and 1 John 3:2.

...for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.

If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts.

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world--the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does--comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.

Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these
words.

David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works: "Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him."

..but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son,
whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom

"For Moses said, 'The Lord your God will raise up for

"For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father

I know that his command leads to eternal life. So
whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to

"The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing.
The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are

The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact
representation of his being, sustaining all things by
his powerful word. After he had provided purification
for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty
in heaven.

But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the
angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he
suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might
taste death for everyone.

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has
gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us
hold firmly to the faith we profess.

But when this priest had offered for all time one
sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of
God. Since that time he waits for his enemies to be
made his footstool, because by one sacrifice he has made
perfect forever those who are being made holy.

For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new
covenant, that those who are called may receive the

ransom to set them free from the sins committed under
the first covenant.

those who come to God through him, because he always
lives to intercede for them.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to
sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has

turn to joy. A woman giving birth to a child has pain
because her time has come; but when her baby is born she
forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is
born into the world. So with you: Now is your time of
grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice,
and no one will take away your joy."

Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even
though you do not see him now, you believe in him and
are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy...

He then added, "I tell you the truth, you shall see
heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and
descending on the Son of Man."

"For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was
lost."

Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve
those who will inherit salvation?

But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the
angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he
suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might
taste death for everyone.

Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the
knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs
in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he
gently leads those that have young.

"A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick
he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring
forth justice; he will not falter or be discouraged till
he establishes justice on earth. In his law the islands
will put their hope."

May your unfailing love come to me, O LORD, your
salvation according to your promise; then I will answer
the one who taunts me, for I trust in your word. At
midnight I rise to give you thanks for your righteous
laws.

I say to myself, "The LORD is my portion; therefore I
will wait for him." The LORD is good to those whose
hope is in him, to the one who seeks him...For men are not
cast off by the LORD forever. Though he brings grief,
he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love.
For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to
the children of men.

..he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us
according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens
are above the earth, so great is his love for those who
fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far
has he removed our transgressions from us.

Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return
to the LORD.

Who can discern his errors? Forgive my hidden faults.
Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not
rule over me. Then will I be blameless, innocent of
great transgression. May the words of my mouth and the
meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O
LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

If I had cherished sin in my heart, the LORD would not
have listened; but God has surely listened and heard my
voice in prayer. Praise be to God, who has not rejected
my prayer or withheld his love from me!

The LORD has made his salvation known and revealed his
righteousness to the nations.

The LORD is my light and my salvation-- whom shall I
fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life-- of whom
shall I be afraid?

Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full
acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save
sinners--of whom I am the worst. But for that very
reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of
sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited
patience as an example for those who would believe on
him and receive eternal life.
