I start a new thread, because I wasnt sure where to put this.
I have friend at Arizona DeathRow, and I would like to phone him someday.
He said I have to fill a form about that phone call.
So there is only chance collect call? How much it might be? I live in Finland.
How long calls are.. USually it is cheap to phone from Finland to USA, but what about collect calls....? Anyone here to help me.. :)

Yes this is right, On the form they ask a lot of Questions about your background you do not have to put your social security number even when asked to do so.
Then on the top of the form it will ask you if you will except collect calls from this inmate? check yes then put your phone number down. it takes about 3 weeks for them to run a background check on you.
And only if your not approved will they send you a letter otherwise you have to call them to see if your approved or wait for his phone call.
But you might want to call your phone company and ask the cost of a collect call from the good U.S.A. The phone calls are about 15 min.long they tell you when you have one minute left before they disconnect you Best of luck to you.

Nothing extra? SO I dont have to be surprised about huge phone bill :)
It would make me and my friend very happy to chat, because there isnt probably a chance to meet each other in future. Sooooo long distance - I hope it would bring something little for his life..

Angry Ram they will ask for your SSN on the application but you dont have to put it down its your choice-ok- If I where you I would call the phone company who will be handling the collect calls just to make sure how much it will cost,every company is diffrent I have found out the hard way- Tx to AZ collect cost 18.50 for 15 minute's-AZ to AZ collect calls cost 2.45 for 15 minutes- Calif. to AZ collect cost 25.00 for 15 minutes See how it changes so if I where you I would check with the phone company

Once you have filled out the approval form and passed background security checks you will be placed upon his '10 list'. He is allowed 10 people who can come for visits....these same 10 people are the ones he is also allowed to call. They will write and tell you if approval has been granted or not. He will be allowed only one 15 minute international call per month, so if he has more than one international friend on his list, he will need to rotate/juggle who he calls. Be aware that there is a huge surcharge added to these calls, both by the prison and telephone company! I know that one such call to Britain can cost up to £30. ( approx $50) In any other circumstances a similar call from the States would only be approx £4.....so big profits being made by someone:blah:

Oh, but I hope there could be easier way... or easier way even to know how much collect call would really be. Do I ask it about my operator, or who is gonna invoice me?

the operator or a recording will ask if you except a collect call from---- push or say 5 , To see how much this call will cost push or say 1 ( !something like that} but you will get to hear the cost before you except, if you wish.

Bixbyshaza, depending on the State the inmate can make a collect phone call to you. You can not call him he has to call you. Some States you have to be on their visting list some states they have to just add you to their calling list. I am not sure about GA, but I can find out for you if no one knows the answer.

I know when I used to speak to my friend who is on D/R in GA,I had to be on his visit list and they did a police check on me and everything,they even went as far as asking my weight,for what?
Anyway,they are only allowed two, 20 minute call's a week,alway's collect and it cost around £32 maybe a bit more.

Hi! Today I go visitation form from Robert, and still I dont have a any idea how much collect call will be. I hope to find it out someday... Also when my husband & I were visiting his sister this weekend, she told us, that they have distant relatives in Arizona. Janne thought they live in California, but they have moved.. Maybe we have a place to stay during our visit someday.. Oh, we have our honeymoon to NYC later this year, but how can AZ be so far away :'(
I was also wondering why I have to fill out my weight or height, lol...

angry ram that is great you got your form. I am sure once you get approved Robert will be calling you.. :) Then you can tell us how much the collect call was........ :)
I am sure they want you height and weight for part of your description. So maybe what you tell them matches your ID.

Hi Softie! Yes, someday I come here to tell about my huge phone bill, but I know it will be worth it. I am afraid of my next phone bill also - I have used phone too much, and also phone for charity phones for Asian tsunami victims... but I know it will be worth of it too... I just need to think what time I want him to phone me, and day... Hmmm.. I know AZ is 8 hours behind us... but I am not sure what time he can make calls from there.... There was one question on other form, where they asked what would be better am or pm, or what day..

I have good news for you, because they are allowed to use a 1-800 collect number! I have a friend on death row Arizona who calls me this way. The number he uses is 1-800-432, after that comes the country number and your own phone number. If I were you I would try to do it this way, because it isn't very expensive at all. My friend is allowed to make overseas phone calls once a month for fifteen minutes. This costs me € 8.84, which is about $ 11.58.
Good luck, and I hope that you'll be able to talk to him soon. It is really a wonderful experience to finally hear the voice of someone you've already got to know so well.

And a big thanks for this info from me as well Marion because I too want to speak with my friend in the same place, so this is really good to know that it will be possible at such a low cost.:thumbsup: Smiles all round and nice to have some good news isn't it.

I am glad that you are both so happy about this, and I really hope it will work out just fine this way. After I had sent the forms back to the prison it took three weeks before I received the approval, and then one month after that my friend called me for the first time.

im afraid to give my numer to my friend because of the cost as im in the UK and he is in PA does anyone know for sure how much this costs and if i do decide to let him call me do i have to give him the number or do i have to contact the prison myself or what
