My husband is at Sierra Conservation Camp and we are waiting to hear about our first family visit. I hope its soon. I haven't seen him since he left the county jail in our home town. I really want to visit but since it is a long way, I was hoping that the family visit will happen soon and I can just go to that. If anyone has any tips on getting there from central california can you please reply? From Highway 101. I did mapquest but I was wondering if there is a better way, thanks.

A few years ago I had a friend there in Jamestown. It is really up there and took me longer than expected. Once I got there (I had my cousin along to watch my baby daughter while I visited the friend inmate) I was the only one allowed in the reception area so my cuz and daughter were hanging out in the back of the car having a picnic!!! Apparently while I was inside a guard told them they couldn't hang out like that in the parking lot! She talked them into letting her and the baby wait in the reception area until I was through w/my visit. It's a good memory and quite a beautiful drive, even though long.

No, I haven't visited yet! I'm not sure exactly where its at. I did a mapquest search and it's somewhere up by San Francisco about a hour or so. My husband said the nearest town is Modesto which I have heard of but have no idea where that is either. Thanks for any info or concerns

Northeast of Fresno. Southeast of Oakland. And it is aprox. 2 and a half hours from San Francisco. Modesto is probably 45 minutes to an hour away from Sierra Conservation Center.

My husband just got there and I'll be applying for approval and a family visit. Do anyone know how long it takes for a family visit to be scheduled? I know the approval can take about a month. Just curious if I would be able to make a trip out there before his is transferred to a camp.

Has he finished his training yet? If not, you will have time to visit prior to him going to camp. And he should know when and where he is going in time to let you know. Good luck and happy visiting. Take your patience with you, sometimes you will need it. It took us about 8 weeks or so to get approval for our first family visit at SCC. And at camp it might have been 8 days prior to getting the date for our first family visit. :D

He hasn't even started training yet. I guess this mean I've got a long wait. :)

Hi, I'm going to SCC for the second time from Los Angeles. I was wondering if anyone from that area has gone to SCC and if they could give me their detailed version of the directions since I got lost last time using MapQuest. I just wanted someone's directions that are more experienced. Thanks for your help.

I came from Lodi/ Stockton.
However, since you have to go north/ east anyways. Taking Highway 99 to the 120 bypass east, at Manteca to Oakdale. Turn left at Oakdale, 120/108 towards Sonora. At Jamestown, turn left on O'Byrnes Ferry Road. You can cut over sooner, at Modesto, but I am not familiar with that way. Hope that helps.
