Camp Georgetown

Visits are every weekend for everyone, from 9-3. This is a minimum security camp....No metal detectors and no searches (but they do search and occassionally strip search the inmates after their visit). It takes one minute to register. you just show your ID and then they call the inmate and that is it! There are no vendors, so you must bring your own food. They only thing they supply you with is ice and a microwave. From Memorial Day to Columbus day, the visits are outside. They are beautiful and probably unlike any other prison visits. YOu are allowed to walk around within certain boundaries and there are barbeques. you can smoke and bring board games and cards. you can sit next to each other and kiss and hug as much as you want. No necking or touching below the belt, of course. After Columbus day the visits are inside and in a very small room. No more smoking or walking allowed. The prison houses only about 200 inmates. It is about 250 miles from the city. I drive there and it takes about 4 hours. I believe Flamboyant bus company goes there as well as a free bus once a month. The closest place to stay in the Geirgetown in for $35 per night. I would not reccomend it because it is just a room on top of a bar with no TV. But it is by far the closest and cheapest. The city of Cortland and the city or Norwich are both about a half hour away and they have various places to stay. The cheapest is Super 8 Motel ofr about $60 per night.
