what is north kern reception like for the inmates? it's so odd to me that they cut off all phone contact for the inmates? does anyone know their reasoning for doing this? my boyfriend says it's to prepare the inmates for prison...basically saying "this is your life now for the next few years, get used to it." if you can have phone contact in county and in prison, why not in reception? ahh, so frustrating...for them especially.

Not sure what the logic is... maybe they're trying to have more control until they are classified -- there are no contact visits either, which they usually do get later in mainline.

I know, it drives me crazy! My fiance has been in NKSP reception for about 11 weeks now, we haven't spoken once. Hopefully he will be moved soon. I would suggest that you call and get his CDC number and cell number and start writing him right away. It took my fiance weeks to recieve my first letters. I think your boyfriend is right it his thinking about the phones, it's a controll thing, getting them ready for the real deal.

As far as what it's like for them, well, he said it's a real trip and he will have a lot of stories when he gets out. I think for the most part it's super borring!

Hope he's transfered soon.

11 weeks??? that is long time. i hope my boyfriend isn't there for that long. i already got some letters from him. he's in a cell for most of the day. i started sending out letters the first day i could get his cdc number. it's only been less than two weeks, and it feels like months have gone by. thanks for your replies...

:( :( MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN IN RECEPTION FOR 3 WEEKS NOW AND I CAN'T WAIT TO TALK TO HIM!! THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP IN TOUCH WITH HIM IS BY SENDING HIM LETTERS. IT REALLY SUCKS BUT IT'S BETTER THAN NOTHING. I SPOKE TO HIS COUNSELOR AND HE TOLD ME THAT HE WON'T SEE MY HUSBAND TO FIND OUT WHERE HE'S GOING FOR LIKE ANOTHER MONTH. THAT REALLY GETS ME MAD BUT AT LEAST I KNOW THAT I'LL PROBABLY BE ABLE TO VISIT HIM WHILE HE'S STILL IN RECEPTION. I'M JUST WAITING TO GET APPROVED FOR THE VISIT. :) JUST KEEP YOUR HEAD UP
