Ok I know that I read a post here somewhere about Jamestown but for the life of my I can't remember where.
I need to know as much as I can about SCC. My fiance was just moved there. What are the rules for visits? Do they have a visitors center that can help with child care? What do I need to know about it etc. . .
I am so happy that he has been moves you can't immagine. He was at San Quentin which required me to stay in the bay area overnight just to visit for 1 hour. Than he was told that he was going to Susanville which is a 5 hour drive, and that too would require me to stay overnight. But now that he is at Jamestown he is only 1 hour 30 minutes away. YEAHHHHHHHHH!!!!
It is about time that things start looking up for the two of us and our family. This means that I can visit him ever other weekend, not once every couple of months.
So if anyone can help I would LOVE your input.

Thanks
Kim

Thank you all for the info. At time I feel like you are my family more than my own family is.
How long are the visits? Are the visits contact? I sure hope so because he was taken into custody on June 27 when our daughter was just 3 month old. Now she is 10 months and she has been walking for 2 months. I can't wait for him to see that and to be able to see him hold her. I wasnt them to start their realitionship.
Maybee we can even get married sometime soon. We had plans to be married on July 4th but the judge had other plans for him. LOL. I have to laugh at some thins to keep my spirtis up, know what I mean?
Well I need to go but I wanted to thank all of you for helping, you really make a person feel not so alone.

Thanks
Kim

Hope you all don't mind but I am going to move this thread (with a re-direct in the old forum) to the Prison Profiles forum, since it is dealing with prison information. You can still reach this thread in the California forum via the forwarded link.

Thanks,

My son spent six months at Jamestown from January to July, 2001. He was supposed to get into fire camp.

One problem he had there was the wait to get trained. The first step is physical fitness training. Once an inmate has completed physical fitness training, he starts double-time. Until then, he is on half-time. It took two and a half months before he could get into PFT. It made his sentence longer because of the delay in getting double-time.

The Legislature recently passed triple-time for fire camp inmates. That means once he gets into fire camp he gets 3-for-1 credit. He gets three days time for every day he serves.

I'm sure that this incentive will have every inmate in the state trying to get into fire camp and the wait to get in will get even longer. But once they get in, the triple-time will be sweet.

Susan, I am so very happy he is close now. I can't imagine how nice it would be to have someone that close. Keep us updated.

Living is Sutter Creek you are very lucky that he has been moved to Jamestown. My son lived in Modesto and was in SCC for about 6 months and he was able to get many family visitors because he was so close.

He was moved to Folsom and hardly ever gets visitors, but that's OK now because he will be released two weeks from today.

I grew up in Sonora, about 15 minutes from Jamestown, but live far away in Texas now.

Ok you guys I am really confused now! I called Jamestown to make sure what the dress code is for visiting and when I was talking to the visiting sergeant he said that I had to apply all over again to visit him. When I first applied at San Quentin I was cleared and they said that I would be able to visit him no matter where he was sent.
Is this info correct and how long does it take?
I have to go the baby is awake and demanding to eat.

Thanks,
Kim

Kim,

My understanding is that some states have a 'universal' visiting approval system and some do not. I have looked through the CA DOC site and I cannot find any information on this and in fact the suggestion is to call for details for each prison.

This may be correct for this prison regardless of what you were told.

As for the time to reapply? You could ask for a timeline but sometimes it is done in a couple of weeks and sometimes longer. Hopefully someone here can offer you more information...
