My mother said that she's heard that all inmates have access to the internet.. I've never heard this before, I told her maybe in other States but not that I know of in Arkansas..Anyone know anything about this??

My Man will be home in 10 Days after serving 365 in RPF...

Thanks for any input...

I've never heard of an inmate having internet access... Can you imagine how much trouble that would cause? Harrassing victims of their crimes...porn...etc!

I was thinking the samething... But couldn't they use blocks like we do for our children??

The blocks don't prevent everything... It would be so hard to maintain that block with how quickly the internet is expanding.

Kids are the best at getting around those blocks and they never really work right anyway. The programs are not smart.. They just use predefined parameters and when something is new or has been changed, you have a hole. Of course, that is how they nail you for update subscriptions..

Back to the topic, I don't know of any prison at all where Internet access is allowed.. I think the only chance an inmate would have of gaining internet access would be if they were in county jail and they allowed a trustee online for some purpose, though I think this would be an extremely rare case due to the fallout..

Some inmates are allowed to use the net for a limited amount of time AND it is supervised by a guard. Not all inmates are allowed this luxury though.

Inmates that have a job in an office at the prisons, or inmates that have a job on work release where there is a computer usually have internet access.

I never heard of any prison allowing internet access to inmates except at SOME juvenile insitutions they have access in the school and are "monitored."

A bill was passed that restricts internet access to the prisoner population. However, it goes unsaid that "some" have more access to these novelties than you would think. For instance, if an inmate is in a "power" position, or administrative position, this inmate just may have internet access unseen from other inmates. Another chance for an inmate to have internet access would be at a work release facility when the inmate is on the job and not being monitored.

Although I was in an administrative position and had access to any of the computers, our unit actually didn't have the availability for internet access (except for the prison's NCIC & ACIC system which is highly restricted).
