What kind of education is available in prison? Can inmates still earn a degree?
Thanks!

Swiftysgirl,
I know that Ohio U offers an inmate degree program with college credits that are actually transferable and works with most all states. It isn't cheap, but college isnt anyway.

My guy is in Indiana State Prison and has obtained a four year degree from a University. He loved that experience and graduated at the top of his class. His only regret is that he could not be "on campus."

In Indiana the state provides support, but only for programs offered through their arrangements for college in prison, and then only after a waiting period. I paid for the first semester. For correspondence courses, I paid for them.

My son is in a minimum security prison in North Carolina. He is on study release and is allowed to walk out of the prison each weekday and attend a community college next door. We only pay for his textbooks. The problem is that there are only a few slots in the whole state for study release. When he leaves prison in July, he will have completed the program for HVAC.
