View Full Version : Need help about FCI Morgantown W VA
maximilian 10-12-2004, 02:51 PM Please help me to get information about the FCI Morgantown W VA. I will be going there for 46 months with self surrender soon.
I am more interested about the inmates activity during the day time whether most inmates will be working at this facility or or any activitoutside the facility such as industrial or working for Army base or else.
This would be my very first time to go into a prison in my life so I am very worried and concern about my well being would be bored to tears.
I would appreciated if any one could help me.

Gr8wife 10-18-2004, 11:51 PM Max,
I have no info for you, but wanted to say Hi and sorry you will be going through this. As far as activities, your attorney or a law library usually has a book on what activities are available, but you most likely will be bored. Take up reading and more reading -even with sports - my husband still feels like he wastes so much time! Good Luck!
Nanu54 11-04-2004, 04:03 AM Hi, Max:
My brother is in Morgantown FCI, not due for release until 10/28/2008. As far as camps go, it is probably one of the best. Let me know if I can be of help to you! Will keep you in my prayers and thoughts!

Hello, my friend is showing that he is Morgantown right now and I was hoping you might be able to give me some kind of idea what this is. Is this a camp?
Can you work? Thank you

leann1 12-19-2004, 10:07 PM Can anyone give me info on Morgantown FCI?
MrsBenji 12-19-2004, 10:13 PM I lived in Morgantown for five years, very recently so I can give you lots of info about the area. For medical care, they take the prisoners to Mon General Hospital. I used to work there. There is very little security (barbed wire and etc) and it is in a lovely area. The facility itself is very nice. I got a tour for a project I did in college. I dunno how it compares to others, but it is very nice compared to the state pens in Michigan. :) There is also a "trailer park" across the road where I know that some of the inmates had families.
Let me know if anyone needs info on the area. :)

leann1 12-19-2004, 10:16 PM So is the Morgantown FCI a camp or a prison? I don't know much about either!

Am I doing this right? I didn't know if you knew if the Morgantown FCI is a camp or a prison? Will he be able to work there? Can you take food?
MrsBenji 12-19-2004, 10:39 PM I don't have a loved one in a Federal institution, so I can only tell you the bare minimum. You may want to search the other threads in the West Virginia forum. You can also go to www.bop.gov and you will be able to find out more info. It is a minimum security prison from my understanding. He should be able to work there as well. I do know if the fed prisons have food visits, but someone else should be able to help you there. Hope this helps.

ExCop 01-19-2005, 02:20 PM NO you can't take him food :(
Yes he WILL be working. Depending on his "qualifications" and how he is classified, he will be "put" somewhere to work! Most of the jobs go by seniority, like I said, I worked there at FCI Morgantown as a Correctional Officer and left in 1999 so things may have changed, but doubtful.
If anyone needs any inside info or how the system "really" works let me know, ;) you can PM me.
I'd be glad to help anyone!
Good luck!

CP1023 08-27-2005, 02:43 PM I am also very interested in learning more about Morgantown. I know that Unicor is employment program that they have; however I would like to know if that is all that they have. Also how would an inmate go about going to school. Do they have college educational programs, or are they allowed to do correspondence courses? Also is this a prison or a camp. I see several people are saying both. Please give info. Also how does the 85% rule work with someone sentenced in 2005, and if they are still sitting waiting to be moved to a federal place. From a state institution. He is a fed inmate but has been waiting to be moved for like 18 months now. He just got moved to another regional jail and hopefully will get to Morgantown finally on their next move. But should you have feedback please send a response. Thanks.
