Mission Statement - The Oklahoma Department of Corrections (ODOC) Medical Services Division is committed to providing clinically appropriate, necessary medical, dental and mental health care for inmates, organized to ensure that resources are used efficiently.
The Medical Services Division provides medical, dental, and mental health care for inmates in Department of Corrections facilities, work centers, contract facilities, and county jails. Quality of care is strongly emphasized and is audited by periodic facility visits by central office quality improvement nursing staff and the medical records administrator. The American Correctional Association accredits all of the medical services units along with their facilities. A registered dietician also provides medical diet consultation and guidelines. Inmate grievances are responded to in a timely and appropriate manner. In addition to the Medical Services internal reviews made of all inmate deaths, deaths are also reviewed by a separate agency, the Oklahoma Foundation for Medical Quality. A centralized pharmacy, use of generic drugs, and an enthusiastic Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, which monitors selection and use of medications, contributes to the efficient use of state funds.
