I want to do something special for his birthday. He is in Menard. I have never had to celebrate his birthday in prison. I know only of doing one things like writing a letter, birthday card, and sending money in. Does anyone having any suggestions for me. Menard doesn't allow anything - that is what it seems to me. Does anyone have their loved one in Menard and celebrated a birthday-- can you share with me what you did to try to make it special.?

Thanks-- those are some good ideas. But will Menard allow the puzzle?
sure, why not? you can send money in advance for him to get new gym shoes or order a tape of favorite music. you can tell him to buy something cake like and eat it at a certain time when you will also have cake. I tried to do this but couldn't get thru last year on my guys' birthday. I tried to request some of his favorite songs and dedicate them to him. you can write him a poem or a story.

Menard does allow crosswords, I've sent Tony lots and there's never been any problem. I was with Tony on his last birthday but before I left England I sent him a newspaper printed the day he was born. He loved it and it's something they do allow in.

I know they can receive books and books are always enjoyed, perhaps you can find one about a subject or person of interest to him. I always vote for pictures they can't seem to get enough pictures and that would be nice as well. Money on his books is always a good idea and of course several cards, a sexy one, a funny one, a romantic one, etc. will help to make his special day a bit nicer!!! If you would like him to receive birthday cards from your friends in the Illinois forum just let us know I'd be happy to send one and I know others would as well. If you'd rather not I understand as well. I hope he has a nice birthday.
Best Wishes,
Patty

What I did for my husband was this: I got him a birthday card that had this beautiful poem on it that said exactly how him and I feel about each other. Then I wrote him a long loving letter and I had a 5 by 7 picture of me (glamour shots) and wrote on the back to my sexy loving man, your real birthday present waits at home when you get out. Now mind you I was nervous that TDC wouldn't let the picture go in do to size and because of it being a sexy picture (no nudity). I also order him some free magazines. I got a letter from him yesterday and he recieved the card and the picture. He was totally floored to say the least. He loved it. Good luck Jeanne

Thanks everyone. I will be able to visit him on his birthday ( Oct 31st). What do you think about writing a letter and describing what we would be doing on that special day( if he was home)? I don't want to make him feel bad ( about being there) ? Know what I mean. I started this week with the birthday cards. I already have him on the list-- he received his card from PTO las week and it really made him feel good. You girls are the best-- I feel like I am at home here with all of you. THank you so much

How about having a star named after him?I did it for Richie a couple of years ago.He will recieve a small certificate with co ordinates for his star and whatever you've chosen to name it.Plus his name would be listed in the next edition of the international star registry book which you could buy and send in to him later.
