Our current Three Strikes law says that there's no difference
between second-degree murder and shoplifting, between rape and
forging a check. We think there is: violent and nonviolent
crimes are in a different moral universe and should be treated
differently. A drug addict with a history of property and drug
crimes should not receive the same sentence that we reserve for
a first offense of homicide. Read more about the ridiculous
sentences that have been applied under our Three Strikes law:

That is one way to look at it. The way I look at is when you have proven that you are a career criminal by commiting not 1, but 3 felonies, then it is time to remove you from any further potential victims.

It is not about the individual crime, it is about the persons absolute refusal to obey the law.

Just my opinion.

I know Sgt. but most of us are here cause we have a loved one in prison. This is just one of those things that we are not all going to agree on and too it depends on each individual circumstance.

You don't put people in prison for life for shoplifting no matter how many times they do it. IMO

I know Valerie, I just wanted to add my 2 cents. If you feel it is inappropriate for this thread feel free to remove it. I debated on whether to post at all.

Hey SGT, please always feel free to post anywhere you would like to. We may not always agree but we are all here to learn what others think. We would never remove your posts unless (we don't like them) J/K unless they violate PTO policy and you have not done that. Barb

I appreciate that, however I know the nature of this board is to help and support those with loved ones in the system. I don't want to turn every thread into a debate.

I agree with Barb, I dont care how many times you shoplift or write a bad check, life in prison, is not the buisness!!!
