Our current Three Strikes law says that there's no difference
between second-degree murder and shoplifting, between rape and
forging a check. We think there is: violent and nonviolent
crimes are in a different moral universe and should be treated
differently. A drug addict with a history of property and drug
crimes should not receive the same sentence that we reserve for
