Kisha,
All they are allowed is a wedding ring as far as jewelery. I have no idea what they would do with other items or clothes. I'm assuming he could have them sent home to you ( but he has to have $ in his account to cover that). Someone could go to R C & G to pick them up I suppose. In which case he'd have to fill out a form with that person's name etc.. on it and that person would need to show up there and show id to get them. There's no visitors at R C & G--just clergy and attorneys. It's a god awful place.

How do I put money on his account and if I put it in there now when he moves to a different place will it go with him?

Oh and one of his rings was his wedding ring (we have been having them but we still are not legally married because he didn't hae his birth certificate) but it has celtic carvings on it so I don't think they will let him wear it.
You need to send a money order to him ASAP. They do get store at R C & G. On the money order make sure you put his inmate # right after his name. Also, on the money order you need to put your name and complete address as the person who purchased it or however it's worded. You send it to him in with a letter or whatever to him---and tell him in the letter that you are including the money order and how much it's for--sometimes they have a way of "misplacing money orders." The mail room opens all letters and they take the money orders out and give them to the Business Office to put in his account and put a receipt in with his letter stating how much was just put in his account (if all goes as it's supposed to).
The money in his account is transferred to where he goes from there, but NOT when he's transferred. It's done several weeks later. So, when he's moved you need to again send a money order as soon as you find out where he's been moved to and do it in the same way. They only get store a couple times a month so it's imperative we send the money order ASAP all the time. Hope this helps. Oh, and I bet he gets to keep the wedding ring unless they check and see he's not legally married and want to be pricks about it. Other guys have the kind of rings I think you're describing. Any more questions---fire away!
Deb
The number for R C & G is: 1-517-780-6000 in case you should ever need it. Good luck!

If you plan to give him a wedding ring during the ceremony, you have to have a receipt showing that it costs 50 bucks or less.
Also if you get money in there for him fast then he can have his stuff sent to you and the money will come out of his account. James has stuff UPS to me all the time but he has to have money in his account to do it. I would suggest you get that to him A.S.A.P. Good luck.
Also as far as him wearing that ring, I think each prison has its own rules, I know where James is he couldnt wear the ring I had given him before but he was able to send it to me for safe keeping. He can't wear any jewelery except a wedding band that is worth no more than 50 bucks. But each prison seems to have their own rules on that, probably depends on the security level and how much of a '____' the warden is.
If they have the wedding ring on prior to going in then they do not have to show how much the ring cost way back when. Any new wedding ring--then you have to have it be under the $50. He already had this ring so that part of it is a non-issue.

If they take it away it will be because they know he's really not married.......so I guess you'll have to start planning for a wedding :D! WHere did he come from? It sounds like he has been transferred from another state. Unless I am reading this wrong. Good luck to you. It sounds as if Deb has answered most of your questions!!

Deb answered your questions, but I wanted to add that some prisons do not give a receipt that a money order was in with a letter...... some mail rooms use a stamp and put it on the envelope noting that a money order was included.
Michelle - I commented about your hubby's ring in your thread.
