I am just throwing together dinner for tonight. Most of the recipes call for worchester sauce. I don't have any and i don't have allspice. I also don't like+ to fry it in flour.
Garlic
salt
pepper
Bay leaves
Onion powder
water
onions
carrots
potatoes
any spices I might be missing??

Heck that ought to do it...got any red wine, red wine vinegar, or V8 juice? those never hurt a stew...

I make stew in a big roaster pan in the oven. Just put in the meat, garlic, onion and seasonings and water, put the lid on, turn the oven on to 350 and let it cook all day or all afternoon. About an hour before dinner, put in your potatoes and carrots. I also have a container in the freezer that I put leftover cooked veggies in---just keep adding to it throughout the month every time you have even a couple spoonsful of any veggie left. Dump that in the stew, too. You don't have to follow a recipe for stew. I make luscious stews and I never follow anything but these basics. Add some nice dinner rolls------those brown and serve kind----or some sourdough or french rolls and if you want to be really fancy, make a green salad. Great stuff! (I've never heard of allspice in a stew, by the way.)
Oh, I forgot to say that by putting it in the oven, you don't have to keep watching it to keep it from burning as long as you've got water in it. I make chili the same way, and that way it doesn't scorch and you don't have to keep adding water to the beans. They won't go dry. I even make apple butter in a roaster in the oven.
My mother puts worchester sauce in everything. Maybe that is why I don't own any!! Although, every once in awhile, it does make the recipe a bit better.
How did it turn out???

ps. You forgot cumin. I put it in everything!!!
