ok in april my man was popped with a drug test in prison which he failed. he sent me write up the other day? it says the officer tested him with a ontrack teststik and tested postive for THC and cocaine then he was given a comfirmation test which was negative for THC and postive for cocaine. what does this mean? if anything the second test would have shown postive for THC right? i dont understand why the first one was postive and the second one was negative? PLEASE HELP ME ANSWER THIS!!!

HOw long between the first test and the 2nd test?

Its possible that one was positive and one negative. THC stays in the system the longest of all drugs so maybe he smoked weed long before the first test, then by the 2nd test it was out of his system. Weed also stays in your fat and if your levels are low, and then you exercise, it can spike to detectable levels so maybe that's what happened w/ the first test.

Coke, to my knowledge, is only in your system for a few days so he probably continued to use coke between the first and 2nd test.

But yes, its possible !

It sounds like there were two tests on the same urine sample. There can be false positive results for THC on the dipstick test--the confirmation test can conclusively eliminate false positive results. HOWEVER, unless your boyfriend had oral surgery within 3 days of the drug test [where cocaine was used as a local anesthetic--an unlikely occurance I suspect] a positive cocaine result is very conclusive for illicit use. There are very few [that is, almost none] false positive cocaine test results--especially when the confirmation test was positive--99.9% accurate. The window between cocaine use and test is about 72 hours.

There is one other thing to check out.... it is important that the test shows the cocaine metabolite vs. cocaine itself. If cocaine is ingested it breaks down [metabolizes] in the body so that it is just the metabolite that shows up in the urine. If someone has adulterated the urine sample [put cocaine powder directly in the urine sample] then the test result will show it is the substance of cocaine [and not the metabolite]. He should ask for a copy of the test result so he can check this out as well.

Of course it is possible that the CO got the test sample mixed up with someone else but today they are pretty careful about labeling samples in front of the prisoner...at least they are supposed to be careful about this!!!! The confirmation test sample should go thru what is called a legal chain of custody process and your boyfriend should ask lots of questions and ask to see the chain of custody form. He may be able to ask to have the sample tested by an outside lab but he would have to incur the cost [if the DOC even allows this option] which could be as costly as $300.

If you go to some of the drug testing websites you will find similar and more detailed information. Feel free to PM me if you have more personal questions or if you prefer, post them here!
