The question was brought up in "Husbands and Boyfriends..." about the guys having problems with inmates. I don't know a guy that's be inside that didn't have SOME problems, but the women, I don't know.

My wife has been in for 19 months and hasn't had one fight. Granted, she's still at a Regional jail, but I know guys that never made it past the precint b4 they started having problems. Other women there have been to the state facilities and haven't had problems there either. I guess my question is have any of your ladies, or ladies who have been in, been having problems with other women. I don't mean one incident in 5 years, I mean someone routinely? My wife has had several arguements and "near" fights, but it never gets that far. She used to try to avoid them when she first got in, now I don't think she cares anymore. Fortunately she can be intimidating so people have tended to back down. I'm wondering what she faces if she transfers (and I'm also just tired of seeing this board have no life...lol).

This is a good question to bring up. I am very interested in the answers. I have always been taught in my classes that Female Prisons are harder then Male ones. I can not be sure if there is validity in this statement because primarily they were made by male professors....how would they know? I am just curious....

My friend said when she was at VSPW in California there were a lot of mean and catty women, but she resisted any fighting due to her desire to get into fire camp.

Now that she's in, she knows any violence will get her booted out. She says there's still mean and catty women but they all know what they'll lose for fighting.

Hey Tuco, I haven't seen you since my return. So she WAS able to avoid conflict, so I guess it's not out of control. If that were the case it would be unavoidable. I'm also concerned because when my wife first got in she didn't want any problems or anything that would affect visits, etc...Lately she goes through these phases of "f it". The frustration of incarceration gets to be a bit rough.

I know a few women that have been in prison and one of them never had any problems, but then the other one, was always having other women try and fight her. I think a lot of it just depends on the prison that they are in, just like in the male ones. One of my acquaintances, is one to let her mouth write checks her as* can't cash, so if someone wants to fight her, I'm sure it's because of that. i think it just varies.

When I got locked up for a short time, I was young. Just turned 18. I was in with a bunch of older women and it was as if they saw me as an imposter to their territory. There were a bunch that surrounded me and tried to intimidate me, but I didn't back down. There was no way I was bound to fight any of them, there were way too many and only one of me. I listened to what they had to say, and I made them listen to what I had to say. All I was trying to do was keep to myself. Once they saw that I wasn't "scared" of them, even though I wanted to pee my pants at first, they left me alone. They saw I was just there to do my time and go home. That was only in county at that. I guess it just depends on the women in the facility.

My SO is small in stature but is a 2 degree black belt which most dont know , so when there are those who try to intimdate her, she attempts to do the verbal judo first but never has lost a physical fight. Violence in prison is just a part of it...a person has to deal with it the best way that they are able...whether male or female...
