View Full Version : Martha going to Alderson
cjjack 09-29-2004, 02:38 PM Martha Stewart has been designated to Alderson. In this article it states she will do her time with (gasp!!) mostly drug offenders. So if she had been designated somewhere else, would there have been a better quality inmate??

Well the inmates will be delighted, I am sure, if she manages to get a job either cooking or serving the food. (So sad and so ignorant though when these articles emphasize "drug offenders" or, in fact, any kind of offenders grouped as if they are all some sub-class of human beings.)
MiaBellaAngela 09-29-2004, 04:43 PM Seems as though they didn't want her to select where she goes because no one else gets to. Really that is good. Everyone should be treated equally.
BillnDenise 09-29-2004, 04:59 PM OMG!! Martha here in WV!!! LOL
kintml2u 09-29-2004, 05:26 PM "Camp Cupcake"? Whats so special about this place? Best cupcakes in the BOP? :D
They are really showing how it goes...I am almost a bit surprised she did not get her choice!

I was amused at the statement from Martha that she wanted to return home as early as possible in March to "start planting her spring garden". I believe Martha will be sadly mistaken if she thinks she will be out gardening while on
home detention. She's lucky enough already to have that huge estate to serve out her time on home detention. I'm hoping Martha is a member here at PTO, so she can get the real story.
triplel 09-29-2004, 07:49 PM I'm supposed to be visiting my sister in Alderson on October 8th. I know it shouldn't make a difference, but do you think Martha's arrival will impact the visiting schedule?
I took my sister for her self-surrender so I know there's nothing to that - i guess I'm worried about the media and what the facility itself will do. Hopefully nothing, and it will just be a normal visit (as normal as a visit at the BOP can be).
any thoughts?
point of light 09-29-2004, 09:02 PM I've been told that the press is by law not allowed near the BOP. (unless invited)
justvicki 09-29-2004, 09:24 PM I know those girls at Alderson are flipping out about now! :)
And, as far as gardening goes, Alderson has a year-round horticulture program with a greenhouse, in addition to a landscaping department.
And, Diane, it's called Camp Cupcake, cause doing time there is supposed to be a piece of cake. :)
ddswatch 09-30-2004, 10:49 AM Waiting for ruling on Blakely vs. Washington before my friend is notified of where she will go. Guess after the Supreme Court rules, if Blakely does not prevail she will get her orders a couple of weeks after that. Alderson is one of two she was told she might go. That or Bryan. What is the rule on sending her books to read? Also, glad to hear about the landscaping and year round horticulture program. She loves that.

I would guess that Martha has plenty of place on her huge estate to plant her garden... :) but she can't be much of a gardener if she thinks that she can start planting early in March anywhere in New York State!!! Here in Western New York, we generally wait until after Memorial Day, which is the earliest that we can expect that there will be no hard frost to kill those tender young plants.

meowmachine-Your comment "she can't be much of a gardener if she thinks that she can start planting early in March anywhere in New York State!!!" was exactly what I had been wondering about too. (Although I guess she probably has state-of-the-art greenhouses etc.) I know she will be allowed to go to work while under 'house-arrest' but will she have full access to all her outside property(acres and acres) at her home?

Maybe she starts her plants in those extravagant greenhouses... but I can't imagine that she could do much digging early in March, when the ground is hard as a rock... unless she's a heck of a lot stronger than we think she is!!!!!:D

Certainly, she thinks so... but that remains to be seen... of course, she can afford to pay for the best monitoring device... i wonder if probation officers offer the "deluxe" model of monitoring devices for wealthy folks on home confinement??????
Well... I'm out of town for a few days... tootaloo for now!!!!
alice
Meowmachine- You were wondering ' "if probation officers offer the "deluxe" model of monitoring devices for wealthy folks on home confinement??????" '- maybe Martha will bring out a new line of "accessories" - I read she was going to write a court "etiquette" book- I am sure her mind is spinning with ideas right now.
