SPECIAL HISTORICAL NOTES AND OTHER INSTITUTIONAL INFORMATION

Taycheedah's history began in the early 1800's, when Governor James Doty established a home in Fond du Lac, which to this day stands on the institution grounds. In the early 1850's, female offenders were housed in the Wisconsin State Prison, known today as Waupun Correctional Institution. In 1912, work began on the creation of a women's facility and in 1921, the Wisconsin Industrial Home for Women was opened. Those first women were mostly committed for so called "crimes against morality," while repeat and more violent or serious offenders were housed at the prison in Waupun.

In 1931, work began on the Wisconsin Prison for Women, to be located adjacent to the Industrial Home. This facility was completed and opened in 1933, and the women who had been at Waupun were transferred here. There were two separate facilities operating on the same grounds. In 1945, the two facilities were consolidated and given the name Wisconsin Home for Women. In 1975, the legislature changed the name to Taycheedah Correctional Institution. In 1995, the first housing unit erected since 1933 was opened. The new $5.7 million unit almost doubled the institution population.

During the 1990's, the female offender population continued to rise to record levels. TCI pursed and was granted approved for a new 64-bed mental health unit, a 64-bed segregation unit, and a 240-bed medium security to better manage growing population. These three new units came on-line in January 20€

MY experience with TY was back in the late 80's. (The rules that I had experience with may have changed)...
Going to the "hole" for accidentally bumping into another inmate would depend on if this was privately, or if in the view of CO's...and the actions of both inmates after this.
I can say, from my own experience...I spent time in Seg (hole) after hugging a fellow inmate who had just found out she had Leukemia. It was for violating the "sexual conduct rule".
If your concern is the conditions of Seg...I found it a nice quiet break from the over crowded rooms...LOL.
PM me if I can help.

It seems like they will put you in the hole at Taycheedah for damn near anything. My friend Kelly is in there currently because some woman who didn't like her got caught with some meds and a note. She said the meds and note were from my friend. They didn't bother to compare the handwriting, just threw her in the hole and told her that she lost her chance at getting into the medium security housing for at least 6 months whether she's found innocent or not.
