SPECIAL UNITS:
Education Complex (E & F Building)
Inmates who lack adequate educational skills are housed in this complex and attend adult basic education classes as their full-time assignment. Remedial education and HSED preparation studies are emphasized.
Multipurpose Complex (G & H Building)
Inmates in this complex have work assignments throughout the institution. These jobs include food services, laundry, industries, maintenance, and other essential institution operations. H-Building also consists of one maximum security wing for inmates in disciplinary segregation, TLU, reception & orientation status.
Segregation (I Building)
This is a high-security unit for inmates who require separation from the general prison population for disciplinary or security reasons. Inmate movement and activity within this unit is limited and carefully controlled.
Other Functions
In addition to the housing complexes, the physical plant of the institution includes a visiting room, chapel, meeting rooms, health services area, staff offices, an inmate processing area, mail and property room, canteen, laundry, barbershop, library, recreation field and gymnasium industry area, school, maintenance area, food service and a warehouse/store outside the perimeter.

Rockview School: The school program is configures to serve the educational needs of adult inmates. There are three distinct academic competency-based curriculums, including Basic (K-5), Intermediate (6-8), HSED (9-12). Ability levels may vary from first grade to post secondary, based on achievement and aptitude assessments. The primary emphasis of the school is to provide an educational component that is competency-based, enhances skills and abilities, holds inmates accountable, espouses CGIP principles while building connections and positive relationships with others.
Redgranite Correctional Institution employs 10 academic teachers, 1 guidance counselor, 1 program assistant, and an education director. Over 300 inmates are served on a daily basis as either full or part time students. The Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) or the Wisconsin Department of Public Instructions (DPI) certifies all staff and programs.
SPECIAL HISTORICAL NOTES AND OTHER INSTITUTIONAL INFORMATION
Redgranite Correctional Institution encompasses 89 acres of land, of which 22 acres are contained within the secure perimeter. The secure perimeter consists of two high-security fences that are equipped with razor-ribbon wire and a "shock"/"knock-down" feature. An intrusion detection system provides monitoring of any activity near the fences. The latest in computer technology is incorporated in the control center, which monitors the entire institution and the perimeter, both electronically and through closed-circuit television cameras. One armed elevated officer post and two-armed patrol vehicles also circumscribe the institution. Groundbreaking June 18, 1999. Tobacco free for staff, visitors and inmates. Average age of Wisconsin inmates is 32. Cost: $52,900,000. Cell size: 80 sq. feet
