Located in Chippewa Falls Wisconsin, this facility is an all-male, minimum security institution designed to serve the specific needs of inmates with alcohol and other drug abuse problems. It was re-modeled from an existing structure which was formerly part of the Northern Wisconsin Center for the Developmentally Disabled. The institution was re-modeled to accommodate 450 inmates.

My fiance was there several years ago, and it was by far the best facility he was housed at, and this was between Dodge, Stanely, New Lisbon and Columbia. He did very well there, and I could see how much happier he was in his letters.

What is Chippewa's Facility experience like for both us and the inmate? Good ??? What kind of visiting set-up is it? Do they have a different dress code?

My husband has been at cvctf since march. You go into a lobby and have to go through a metal detector. There is a visiting room like a day room where everyone visits so no you are not alone. If you have kids there is alittle play area with a tv for them. Vending machines which the inmate is allowed to get up and walk to them and use the microwave. They just can't handle any money, board games etc. You can visit Mon.,Thurs and Fri from 3 pm to 9 pm and Sat and Sun 9 am to 3 pm. You can stay there the whole time unless they get busy and need the table. I have not had any problems and my husband neither. The guards have been very nice. The dress code is still the same has any other facility. In the lobby they have a visiting pamphlet. I was in the blind to until I got there and grabbed a visiting pamphlet for more information.

CVTC started an Earned Release Program this year, but there are other inmates there that are not part of that program. If he is in the ERP program he will be released after he completes the entire 6 months. No more no less. The 12 step thing means nothing as far as getting out early.

My man will be going to Chippewa in July and he was told that it is a very hard program. And I just hope it will help him with his problems. I also hope that your loved one gets all the help that he needs.

I am new to this prison life and learning alot. But I am just hoping this will be the end of the prison life when he gets out.

Feel free to send me mail if you want to chat.

CVTC's annual reports are online. I've found reading the DOC's annual reports has given me a great deal of information. Here's a link to CVTC's 2007 report
http://www.wi-doc.com/FY07%20CVCTF%20Annual%20Report.pdf

The DOC's Opportunities and Options Handbook gives you some idea of programs offered in each facility. It hasn't been updated since May 2007 though.

If he wants to get into the Earned Release Program, read the ERP Suitability Criteria
