INSTITUTION INFORMATION
PDCI was originally purchased by the State in 1997 as a third Juvenile Correctional Institution (JCI) for boys. However, due to decreases in JCI populations, PDCI was transferred to the Division of Adult Institutions in the 2003-2005 state budget and it now houses male inmates. It is located on the southwestern border of Wisconsin, approximately 100 miles west of Madison.
PROGRAMS
Utilizing the unit management (team) approach, PDCI provides life skills, self-discipline, confidence, and positive role modeling for the inmates placed there.
Major program components include:
AODA Treatment & Education Cognitive Intervention Program
Victim Impact Program Performance of Community Service
Religious Programs Education & Vocational Programs
The Educational Program emphasizes academic remediation for students below literacy level, preparation for the High School Equivalency Exam for students at higher levels, and technical college classes for those students who have a diploma.
PDCI provides medical, dental, and psychiatric services. Licensed and qualified staff provide all services, routine and emergency, on a 24-hour basis. The facility has a Health Services Unit and dental area that provides for all routine care on site. Clinical Services provides assessment, treatment, crisis intervention, and other mental health services. Clinical Services also provides group therapy in anger management and domestic violence.
