Lysbeth 09-27-2004, 11:25 PM Thank you all so much  Well, good news and bad news - the friend up for pardon was denied. But the friend up for parole - parole granted! :) The pardon situation was kind of strange in itself - our friend didn't file for a pardon and we still don't know who turned in his name on his behalf for a pardon hearing. This friend is a wonderful, wonderful person who does a lot of awesome work in prison ministry and also has been instrumental in getting many of his friends who have been stuck in the system way too long out of prison. He was in fact supposed to have been one of the speakers at my guy's hearing but a couple of weeks before that he got the notification that his pardon hearing was scheduled, so it was decided it would be best for him to step back from my guy's hearing.... and we all know how that hearing turned out. Well, everything happens for a reason so I am hoping that one day there will be a clear and evident reason why this fine man and Alabama citizen was not granted a pardon after over a decade of clean living and exceptional service in his community, state, and spiritually, and why my guy still sits in prison and will be for a full twenty years, when the judge, his attorney, and the D.A. all assured him he would only have to serve 1/3. No offense, my Alabama friends, but you guys live in one truly messed up state. On the good news tho, this is really good news about our friend's parole. He was Brian's longtime cell partner and was Lewis' cell partner for a while after Brian got sent off to Mississippi. Another fine man and human being and just an all around good guy, who has done well over 20 years (I'm thinking it's around 26) of a life w/ possibility of parole sentence. I am just thrilled to death. And can you believe the decision was already on the automated system at 6 p.m. today! I sure wasn't expecting it to be and was so shocked, but pleasantly so! :) Thank you all again for your good thoughts and prayers... at least they half worked  E1950 09-28-2004, 12:45 AM Hi Sis, just want to say hello, and I'm sorry to hear the bad news, but very grateful to hear the good news; I am so happy for my X-cell partner. I know he's on cloud 29... Tell your man I said hello and to keep his head up, and don't let the devil get him down. we love ya, Lewis & Sue Sel 09-28-2004, 01:49 AM Thanks for letting us know how everything came out, Lys! I'm sorry about the friend who's pardon was denied...but, I'm sooo happy that the other friend was granted parole. :D No offense was taken by the Alabama comment...believe me...I've lived here about all my life and I'll be one of the first people to tell you how messed up this state is. Always has been for as long as I can remember. I don't think any of the other Bama folks would disagree either...LOL. Selena PJ1965 09-28-2004, 05:48 PM Glad to hear they paroled your friend and I have to agree, AL is a messed up state. lol |
