Well I'm in New Orleans but but fiance' is on his way up there as we speak. I'm not sure where in MI he is going yet. We are going to get married up there while he is locked up. Hi everyone....my husband was just moved to Coldwater, which is in the southwest part of the state...yeah...we were kind of getting worried he might get shipped up to the UP....I love it up there but it is over a seven hour drive for me.

A quick question to all of you from Michigan---are you telling other visitors at the prison about PTO? That's how we can keep spreading the news in Michigan. When we're checking in or have your person tell some of the guys they're close to.

An idea for in the future might be for us to have a "get together" in Michigan....someone else brought that up in another post----I think it was Mrs. Dragon---anyway something to think about maybe doing....

Just for the heck of knowing, well I know what they do to him at Kinross. They check everything, I mean everything, even if he just goes to the bathroom. He can't even have a piece of paper from me. Last time I wrote a number on his arm and that is the best I could do. They get caught with even a piece of paper that you give him he will get a serious write up, that wasnt a risk we wanted to take since we really want him paroled this time around.

Dont worry about the witch thing, actually a witchlin is a grumpy little dwarf thing from the black forest in Germany, or so legend has it. I found it in a book called the field guide to little people a number of years ago and thought it was neat. The blue part came from an online blues radio station I had a few years back. But on the net lots of people call me witch, Im not too picky so dont you worry. But I thought it was quite funny how how you called me, that is a new one. Thanks for the smile. :)

I live in the Thumb...hubby is 59 miles away at Freeland. He will be transferred soon because he's a Level I now...we are hoping for Deerfield.

Thanks for the reply on the after visit at kinross......since lee got flopped for another 24 months, i wanted to go see and meet him where he is now and he *heard* that they rectal exam but according to deb, its not all the time and depends on the guard but his unwillingness to go thru it led people to believe he is scamming me or has a wife of someone he doesnt want me bumping into so........he just wrote back that he isnt gay and he is not cool with a man lookin at his A** like that, that he would otherwise give anything to meet, etc.......soooooo..........

Dear Deb,

I am sad to report that I cannot tell other visitors about PTO because there is never any other visitors... I try to go up once a week and can you believe that usually my name is on the visitors log two or three times sometimes... (On the same page).

It's sad but a lot of the folks where my son is at are from very far away and they are always telling him how lucky he is to have a visit. Once while there one of the inmates asked me if I was there to see my son and I said yes and he said you sure come here a lot, he is lucky I have not have a visit for eight years....

Well, if my son gets moved downstate it will be visits few and far between....

If I see some I will tell them for sure.

My Dale is in Baraga as well.... (hopefully I'll go for a visit about the middle of the year). During that visit, I'll also visit Dale's parents in Lambertville, (wherever that is).

I tend not to discuss PTO because of a bad experience I had with someone on another forum...

My hubby and I were having some "issues" and I talked about it during chat one night. Well, one wife, who's hubby was at the same facility as mine, TOLD her hubby, who TOLD several others about the problem we were having.

and of course, my husband got harrassed about it. My hubby was VERY upset with me even though he did understand why I discussed it with others. From that point on I never discussed my problems there. I don't have THAT many probems in my marriage, but when I do, Ineed friends to help me thru them. IT was very tough for me after that.

Hey I think it is a great idea for those of us in Michigan to find each other. Maybe if we can start making ourselves heard they will realize that there are an awful lot of us and do something for our men. I am in Muskegon, deb you know who I am as well. I really think it is time for us to start reaching out to each other and then banding together and standing together!

Well, as I type this Bill is packing his stuff cause he got the word that he's being moved in the morning. I HATE THIS. I HATE THE UNKNOWN. Second time this last month that this has happened with them going to move him and everyone knows what happened last time and he ended up at the same place...... So I'm in the limbo land here again......

Oh Deb...I am so sorry.... I know how you feel. Yesterday, Anthony just happened to stop and talk to the counsler, and she was getting ready to process him to be moved to the U.P. - luckily she set his file aside - but had he not popped in at that precise moment.......I'd be making an eight hour (or longer) drive.

I swear the only thing I know for sure is that the DOC can do whatever they want and they do not have to inform anyone about anything.

I really wish there was something I could do for you. I'll be thinking of you & hoping it all works out for the best

Deb...hopefully you will know quickly. Fortunately for me, the last time the Dragon got transferred, he knew where he was going and was able to call me before he left. Then he had a friend's Mom call me to verify he got there.

Bill may be able to find out tonite. Some guys work "cleaning" and will see what they can see. Bill will call me if his pin # is still working or several of the guy's wives will pm, e-mail or call me. Hopefully, I will know tonite and hopefully it's a place that works well for us.....closer or by someone we can stay with etc...

I just got off the phone with Records and he is at Deerfield Correctional in Ionia. I was freaking all nite as Records told me at 4:45 pm yesterday that they didn't know where he was and that "he must be going a long way as he hasn't arrived yet." Memories of Virginia played in my head....although I haven't heard that Granholm is going to be placing our guys out of state again. Anyway, thanks everyone for being there for me.

The MDOC won't tell you on the day of transfer. My hubby is hoping that he goes to Deerfield when he is transferred. Its not as close as St. Louis, but everyone says St. Louis is the pits.

I do know they are granting paroles left and right. I've heard that Granholm is raising hell about so many guys still in past their first out date and longer.

I think they will reopen the two closed prisons and do more paroles before then start sending out of state again...BUT

WIth morons who do get out committing serious crimes, it sure makes it tough on our guys. The bad publicity only makes it harder!

MDOC has always told me on the day of the transfer where he went til yesterday. They told me he "must not have arrived yet" yesterday.

But, Deerfield must be ok then, right? The guard that answered the phone was very nice and offerred directions etc... It would be nice to have a better environment.

Where did you hear that about Granholm?????? It's good news!

My hubby told me about Granholm the other day....I assume he heard it thru the prison grapevine.

I've noticed at Freeland that the c/o's are much nicer than the "old" days. I wonder if its coming out of all the complaints from families!!! Whenever I leave, they always wish me a safe trip home. The first time I heard it I about fell over.lolol..!!

I will let you know what Deerfield is like mrs. So far Bill says the guards are good and bad like everywhere else. They do offer a lot more classes for guys and ICE HOCKEY------the skates, pads, helmets and all the gear they need!

I had a friend that was in Deerfield, and although it's been quite a while since I seen him there, I can tell you this much about the place! The VR is huge as compared to the one here!! It's different though, and some of the guards there are good, just like here! I can't remember how it was though as far as going through the gate with the jewelry, etc. Just thought I would let you know that much though. Have a great visit and tell him that Alan and I said hello!!

Just a quick update to let you know Justin has been moved to Kinross. There are good things and bad things. The good thing is he is getting closer to finally reaching his level 1 (he has been waiting for bed space). He is now level 2 and they have a skating rink and cross country skiing. He can go outside whenever he wants, not just one hour of yard time a day and he can take a shower anytime. He said it even has hot water. WOW, the biggest news, he said "Mom you will never believe it. There are guys here with WATCHES".

After 18 months of never knowing what time it is this is a real luxury. Funny the things we all take for granted.

On the downside he is now 310 miles away so my weekend visits are going to be reduced to monthly if I am lucky.

Will keep you all posted.

Well Kinross is not that bad really, it has its good and bad stuff. They got welding certification and car mechanics of some sort too. Three guys to the cell and they get to watch pretty half decent movies. When you go to visit drop me a line and I will fill you in on what to expect at that place if you want.
