View Full Version : Marriage At San Quentin....
RegisSweetness 09-24-2004, 07:35 PM .......i wanted to know if anyone has gotten married at san quentin prison or know anything about the process. when do they do the weddings? whats the process and are there any costs. any information will help me. thank you. oh....if anyone has a wedding story to share you know i wanna hear it!!!! :D
Eric's Homegirl 09-25-2004, 09:51 PM I haven't got married at San Quentin, however you can call the prison and
speak with one of the chaplins there, and they would be able to better advise
you than I can, I know that you have to purchase a marriage license from the
county of Marin, I think that the cost is 50.00 dollars. The chaplins would
be able to give you all the details of how to proceed. Hope this is helpful to
you. Suzi
teffy2636 10-01-2004, 11:26 PM When are getting married?..my fiance is on Death Row and we are looking to get married very soon, my best friend was just married there in June, send me a note and we can chat
RegisSweetness 10-13-2004, 05:51 PM I Spoke To The Marriage Coordinator At The Prison Adn She Said That Eventhough I Always Have Contact Visits, All Death Row Weddings Are Behind Glass. Thats So Messed Up!!!! I Have To Marry My Man While Hes Behind Some Plexiglass And I Wont Even Be Able To Hold His Hand During The Ceremony. I Am So Upset About That. Why Wuld They Let Us Visit With Contact All The Other Days And Then When Something As Special As A Wedding Day Comes They Take That Away????? Doesnt That Seem Unfair!!!!????
IceBlueSparkle 10-13-2004, 06:11 PM Crazy...and disappointing.... :( BEHIND GLASS...!!!! *breaks my heart*...although I guess I shouldn't complain because some states don't allow marriage at all...
It doesn't make sense to me !!!! Contact visits...just not when ya get married...craziness !!! Sorry just venting...*sigh*
RegisSweetness 10-13-2004, 06:30 PM We'll Be Able To Have Contact Visits Afterward, Just Not During The Ceremony. It Does Break My Heart, But Hey Like You Said....some States Dont Allow Marriage At All, And Some Of Them That Do Only Do It By Proxy, Meaning You Cant Even Be Together For A Ceremony, Its Basically A "paper Signing." So If We Gotta Do It Behind Glass Then Ill Treasure It Whatever Way It Comes. I Just Want To Be Happy With My Baby.
Ebony's spice 10-16-2004, 02:25 AM I don't understand this AT ALL....could that be because it doesn't make sense???!!!! Did they tell you WHY marriages have to take place behind glass? Why couldn't they just marry you while on visitation where you can have contact? What do they think is going to happen if you get married with contact? I'm very curious as to why it is that way and if they told you why????? That is absolutely RIDICULOUS. If anything, you'd think it'd be the other way around - i.e. you visit thru glass, but if it is something as special and important as getting married, they let you have contact. (not that you would want to visit thru glass, but it seems weird that the more stringent rules are on the most special event) Cruel!
RegisSweetness 10-17-2004, 01:44 PM i think i may be wrong. when i was on a visit yesterday we asked one of the officers i nthe visiting room about it and he said that they marry you on a normal visiting day and it will be a regular contact visit. the guard said that 2 months ago someone just got married and he was the officer that took the pictures, etc for them so he said more than likely it will not be behind the glass. I am so glad of that!!!!

reception center inmates are not allowed to participate in marriage and/or family visiting programs. they have to wait until they get to the facility that theyll be transferred to.

I have a question, my fiance is in reception, and he is not going to be transferred anywhere else, he is to do his time there. Because his time is short, he might be staying in reception the whole time. Is it still not allowed for us to be married?

YES

EVEN IF HE DOES STAY AT SAN QUENTIN, THATS FINE. BUT HE WONT BE ABLE TO GET MARRIED IN RECEPTION AT ALL, NO MATTER HOW LONG HES THERE. HE'LL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL HES NOT ON RECEPTION CENTER STATUS.

Schmusi34 09-05-2007, 05:12 AM What do you mean do they tell how or what you need to get married. If you ask they tell you... of course.

As most of us who hang around San Quentin for visits most weeks and read this forum will tell you... it isn't always that easy to ask a simple question and get a simple answer... of course!! There are many situations where we have to figure things out on our own by trial and error or ask someone else who has gone before us. The guards and administration aren't always as helpful as they might be and are famous for giving 'half answers' to important questions. You can't always rely on what information one person gives you - you should always confirm with others. I think it was very wise to ask for info regarding getting married here and not just rely on what the prison tells you. ....If you ask they DON'T always tell you... of course.
Mitch67 09-05-2007, 11:58 AM Hey I sometimes think that our German friend and we Europeans as a whole get a little misunderstood. Was there really a need for that many statements of 'of course' in one response?
:(
