My husband had another inmate call to tell me that all the white boys were on lockdown in H unit. My husband is half white and half mexican. Why do they lock down one race??? Who picks what race you are? How long are they usually locked down for?? Can they get mail during this time?:confused:

well the lockdowns can be for various reasons, but for example if the hispanics get into it with blacks then all inmates of both races are on lockdown in the unit it happened in until prison officials feel that theres no more tension to be a hazard to anyone else. lockdowns can vary from a matter of weeks and ive seen lockdowns last longer than 2-3 months. depending on the situation there may be some use of the phones by inmates on lockdown, im not sure about visits though......most times visits are cancelled from them until their lockdown is over. but they can most definitley have their mail regardless.

Yes they can still recieve there mail, your husband however chooses what race he is.
When most lockdowns occur, the prison wil only give what ever unit only a certain
amount of rope..in other words, who ever the white boys got into it with, they will
separate them from the other race. Everything is separated until the prison feels that
things can return to normal. However whoever started what, if it happens again, then
the same thing happens but the punishment is more severe.
