Anvil Mountain Correctional Center (AMCC) is a regional facility for sentenced and unsentenced adult felons and misdemeanants, both male and female. It provides Nome and surrounding region with pre-trial and short-term sentenced incarceration and offers a variety of education, life skills and re-entry programs. AMCC opened in November of 1985, replacing the old Territorial Jail located in the Federal Building.
Mission Statement
The mission of Anvil Mountain Correctional Center, a Level II facility within the Department of Corrections, is to protect the public, recognize and protect victims rights, provide a safe and healthy environment for staff and inmates alike while promoting reformation and providing housing and services in a fiscally responsible manner.
A.M.C.C. protects the public by housing minimum, medium, close, and maximum custody male and female sentenced and unsentenced inmates in a secure setting with supervision consistent with their custody and security level.
A.M.C.C. recognizes the rights of victims by ensuring property victim notification of inmate events as required by state law.
A.M.C.C. ensures a secure, safe, sanitary, and healthy environment by supervising inmates and adhering to Department of Corrections policies and proceedures.
Programs
Anvil Mountain Correctional Center offers educational and work opportunities:
Education consists of G.E.D tutoring and testing, Adult Basic Education instruction, life skills, mini vocational and correspondence study courses.
The institution affords prisoners the opportunity to acquire good work habits and skills through institutional work assignments.
All programs are designed for a highly transitory and short-term population.
