Hey everybody. I hope that this message isn't inappropriate to be posting throughout the different forums, but, I felt that this would be the right place to hear the many different opinions that people have on a prisoner's rights.
John Walsh, the host of "America's Most Wanted," now hosts a daytime program called "The John Walsh Show." For the most part, we tackle news stories (such as covering the sniper shootings,) but also other issues such as the one I'm talking about here.
Next Friday, January 10th, 2003, we will be taping a show in our studio here in Rockefeller Center. We plan on having a constructive discussion on the various aspects of prisoner's rights. I understand that there are families of prisoners in these forums, actual prisoners, people who have been through the system, etc. As one of the producers here, I'm looking for pretty much anybody who has a perspective that they staunchly believe in... such as the right for prisoners to be educated, or to have penpals or conjugal visits or the like.
We are not a Jerry Springer type show, so, I can assure you that there wouldn't be any catfighting on set. We really just want to discuss this issue openly and honestly. That's not to say that everybody who would appear on our show would have your same perspective. Having contacted several organizations, I know that there are many people who support a prisoner's right to having penpals so that once an inmate is released from prison, they have a support system by which they can grow and structure a life on the outside.
If any of the above seems to describe you, or perhaps you are even opposed to prisoner's having these rights, please feel free to contact me.
My number is toll-free, 866-459-2574 x6647. Please give me a call. Before you think it a concern, we arrange for all of our guests transportation and accommodations to New York. Because we've really only just begun in structuring this specific show, I'm really open to any suggestions you might have as to the best way to present this discussion. Thanks so much! I look forward to hearing from y'all.
