View Full Version : My Visit :))
wannamae 09-19-2004, 07:56 PM hi all,
I just got back a few minutes ago from visiting James and it was a great visit.
Went up Sat but was late so had to stay over for Sunday. Which was planned anyhow. He said he had a feeling he was getting a visit so on Sat. he got cleaned up and no one came. So this morning I got there about 11AM, and he was still asleep!!
Oh and get this, they almost didnt let me in because the case worker hadnt filled out the visiting card yet. Thank goodness I had called and had the right name. The visiting officer had to make a few calls to get it approved.
Man I would of been really pissed if they said no you cant visit. And this is within the first 30 days of his transfer.
Maybe they also seen that I was determined. And the first 30 days are free. Doesnt that mean whoever or just about anyone can visit?
Well the visit was good, he had lost a lot weight while at Lawton. So that food must really be bad, bad, bad!! lol
Once I get the visiting application sent back in I plan to go in the middle of October and take the boys.
Next time we will take pictures. They are $2.50/per and polaird. Wasnt crowded, but seem to be tight on the rules. Kiss/hug before and after visit. And proper clothing of course.
So, how was everyone's else weekend? Mine was very good....... :) :) :)
lafngator 09-19-2004, 09:14 PM wannamae glad to hear your visit went well. So is he on med. or min. side? How long did it take you to get there? It's about about 1hr and 45 min. from me. I drove it every weekend for a year. Now I drive two hrs. every weekend and have been doing it for a year now, we are hoping he will get moved closer real soon. I had a great visit today as well. None of the children went so it was just me and him enjoy one another and the nice weather. It seems we have some guards that thinks the visiting guard needs to keep and eye on us, that is what he told us today.lol He told her that she had nothing to worry about with us. I think those guards need to read the rules cause it does say you can place your arms around the shoulders and some of the guards think when you do that that you are getting to close. Anyway, we deal with them, they ain't to bad we get lots of hugs and kisses. You'll have to get the feel of the place and once the new wears off things will relax. It's always hard going to a new facility not knowing how they will react and which one's are strict, etc. What part of AR. do you live? You can pm me if you would like. I live close to AR real close.
irisheyes66 09-19-2004, 09:18 PM Wannamae, glad to hear your visit went so well....why does it always seem like there's a last-minute glitch, no matter what facility it is???
I saw my sweetie Saturday (we had a GREAT time!), and spent almost all of today developing my "PTO Spread" (that's code for a flat butt from sitting in front of this puter too long!). LOL!!!
praizewarrior 09-19-2004, 10:00 PM I'm so glad that you had a good visit. Visiting new yards can be so stressful. I think Lawton is a CCC and my son says that the food with DOC is much better than the food with CCC.
TxRenee 09-19-2004, 11:36 PM WoooHoooo Glad you had a good visit.. I got to see my man up in Lexington Today..he is doing wonderful and ready to come home SOON we all pray!
freckledgrl 09-19-2004, 11:49 PM Wannamae, I'm so glad your visit worked out and was a good one to boot! The one kiss & hug isn't enough but it sure is good ain't it :)
Lawton is CCC and yes, the food is horrible. Also the No Smoking rumor is floating around to start in the next couple weeks. So we'll see what happens.
I visit my guy next week but I did get to talk to him on the phone today. He's happy to be able to watch Survivor so all is good...lol.
ldysirois 09-20-2004, 08:51 PM SOOOOOO GLADDDDDD you got to go and finally see him and glad it was a nice visit...HUGS
MommaHen 09-20-2004, 09:00 PM Wanna that is great news and I am so glad that you got to see him!
wannamae 09-21-2004, 06:11 PM Ok a little more on the visiting.
Was allowed to take one pack of unopened ciggerettes, lighter, and $20 in quarters. I also added a few extras floating around in my car/purse.
Was told that I will have to take a copy of our Sons birth certificate to prove he is the Father. (Never had to do that before) But for my youngest Child he needs not to have one. Sounds a little funny but that is what I was told.
James in on the min side! :)) Inmates cant mess w/money or the machines. They cant keep the opened cigerettes. Had to bring those back w/me.
There were 2 visiting guards, one male and one female. The male walked outside a few times but only to make sure there was no nookie going on. LOL He did talk to this one inmate and I am assuming that he thought he was doing something wrong. But we saw nothing to embrassing.
We sat outside most of the time. There a few picnic tables under a ramada, and then a few out in the sun. And of course we sat on the outer tables.
Lafngator,
The drive for me was 4 hours. It took a long time to get there but getting home wasnt so bad. Nice thoughts to make the time go by. LOL I am in NWA. Take 540 south, hit I-40 toward OKC, then South on 69.
One thing I was amazed at was that it is so close to a main highway. And I was worried that I would have a hard time finding it. But it was right there, cant miss it.
I did chat w/a Mom as we were leaving. She mentioned that there was a lady that came from Arkansas to visit, so I am assuming it is you? I didnt get her name. But they wouldnt let her bring her Grandchild in to visit.
Hope I didnt leave anything out, oh yea they did a pat down on visitors and one on inmates before actual visit.
One thing for sure beats the heck out of McAlester! Even had to take our shoes off there!
freckledgrl 09-22-2004, 02:11 AM Wow, that sounds like heaven!! I am so jealous :)
I'm really happy for you!
lafngator 09-22-2004, 08:18 PM Wannamae sounds like things have changed there since I have been there. I haven't been there in over a year. There use to be a blonde headed young female guard, she was always pretty cool. There were several different male guards, you never knew which one was gonna be there. Careful were you sit cause the watch tower from the med. side can see you, if your gonna still some sugar.lol You'll learn where to sit and were not to. Well when you went down I-40 you went right by were I live, not to far over the state line. I never had to provide a birth certificate for my son to go, they never asked for anything on him. He is not my fiancee's child, but when I took his girls which we still have it in file that I have permission from their mother to take them to see him, they have never asked anything about that. I remember the first time I went there to see him, he had just been transfered there and I had been approved on his visiting list from the previous facility and when I went to Stringtown they wouldn't let me in, so they let his mothere stay and I drove on to Atoka and killed a few hrs and then went back and picked her up. They were real nice about it. I know you can get some guards that won't budge on the rules. Do you go every weekend? Well my fiancee' is getting ready to be moved to lower sec. and we don't know were he will go. He had the chance to take a job 5 hrs. away and when he called the other night to tell me the "good news" I fell apart, later realizing I should have been more supportive of him cause I know he wants to go. Not to be farther away from us but because he would benefit from it in the long run. He was told that for every 900 something hrs. he worked that he would get a year knocked off his time, so that would mean that he could be home in May of 06 and where he would be going would be close to my parents. I've really been thinking about it and I think it would be for the best that he goes, I don't know if he will now since I was so upset about it all. Just the thought of him being 5 hrs. away blew my mind. I'm alright with it now and if he goes then I will eventually move back home cause he will only be 45 min. from me then. It's been a rough week with all this but I'm getting thru it. Good luck on your visits.
jblovesdb 09-22-2004, 08:23 PM I am happy to hear that you had a great visit!!! Hugs:p
