Does anyone out there have info on the prisons in Florence and Phoenix, AZ, which I believe are the two closest to me? I'm trying to gain knowledge and lend a hand in advocacy/activism. Thanks so much.

Linda

I have a friend, who I try to visit about every 3 months or so... locked up in AZ. I have been to the prison in Florance, -SMU 1, and then Buckeye's prison also..... What type of information were you looking for? I am sure, he could get you what you might need to know.
Also there is a former judge in Az, who does prison reform.... she is not well liked by alot of people...especially the DOC, but also by alot of inmates...because she will just sue the DOC over anything, and as a result has lost alot of cases, and alot of privigiles for in inmates- for example getting packages, etc.
I can give you her web site... if you'd like..... I have met with her several times- and she can be alittle abrasive...but her husband is great! he was serving a life sentence , and got his law degree while in there...some how now, he is a free man these days... I wonder if that is why she is a "former" judge? But.... he does legal work for inmates....and they are always looking for people to help...etc...

Hey, Michelle:

Finally, an answer! Thanks for coming through. Coincidentally, I'm supposed to go over to Middle Ground, the same organization you are referring to, this week to do some data entry. I'm more interested in vigils and protests, but guess this could be a start. Thanks for the heads up on the abrasive, former judge. Her name is Donna Hamm and she does seem a bit entitled. I'll give it a shot anyway.

As far as your thesis, my only connection with the prison system is that I write many prisoners, the most recent in Florence, by the way. There is one guy I write that I must admit I'm attracted to but have ruled out anything happening due to the age difference. He's not the one tripping; it's me. I entertain thoughts of visiting him since he's in a neighboring State, but so far am a confused chicken. Best of luck with your thesis. Do feel free to reply if you need more info. Take care.

I did an internship with Donna.... she never followed though with her end of the bargin.... I just ended up doing alot of research for her...James, is alot of fun though... totally down to earth dude. Have you checked out the AZ DOC's web page.... where you can get all sorts of info, on men incarcerated in the state there? I can find the address for you...
I wish you the best of luck on data entry.... I am curious as to what you think of Donna once you meet her :)
