View Full Version : 14 and sentenced to life-UPDATE
enchanting158 09-14-2004, 11:41 PM I met my boyfriend almost a year ago. He has been incarcerated since the age of 14, and has a life sentence. Due to his high profile case I have had a hard time trying to find people to talk to, so maybe here I can find others like me.
I would have never imagined it would ever be this hard for me. I've tried to carry the light for him, to give him hope. I do not believe he deserved a life sentence.
He is now 20 years old. He has filed for an appeal, so hopefully there is some hope for him.
It is also very hard in my day to day life. I didn't mean to fall for him, but it happened, and I'll stand beside him through the end.
I hope there is someone here that I may be able to communicate with.
fellunii 09-14-2004, 11:48 PM hello and welcome to pto there are slot of peeps here to talk to with similiar circumstanses i am sorry to hear about your man ,are his chances good for an appeal? anyways WELCOME:thumbsup:
qwerty 09-14-2004, 11:51 PM HI and welcome!! There definitely are a lot of us who can relate... you might want to check out the lifers forum, too. My friend has been mostly locked since he was 12 and is now doing 26 to life...
You'll find lots of support and understanding here! :)
There is always someone here to communicate with. We do not judge and regardless of the case we are here for support. There is often times some lively discussion, but if it gets to a point of judgement or degrading one person or another it is brought to a halt. We all know the feeling of keeping the spirits up of our loved ones inside. A life sentence for a 14 year old is not justice it is vengence. :twocents:
Welcome to PTO
his_lil_sis 09-15-2004, 12:22 AM :) hello and welcome to PTO.. I was in the same place when I found PTO and as I did you will quickly learn there are others that feel the same way as you, including myself...
My brother is an inmate at Tucker Unit in Arkansas serving 7 of 10 years for Aggravated Robbery so I do understand how you feel and would welcome your questions and concerns, feel free to pm me anytime...
enchanting158 09-15-2004, 07:52 AM His chances were very well...Until a few days ago when Tate ( the Juvenile sentenced to life, but only served about two years) just violated his porole, and was arresested again. He was like the role model to show that juvenile offenders should have a second chance. I still believe that Josh will be released one day, it's just a matter of when.
Josh ( my boyfriend) is a law clerk in prison. He is working toward a 4 year degree in psychology. He is very smart when it comes to the law. Hopefully his knowledge will be of some help.
Oprah is supposed to interview him sometime in October. ( I'm not real excited about that, he gets too many letters right after an interview, but he is a smart man, he can see right through people) Oprah can be a good ally if she likes you.
Right now he risides in Marion C.I. here in Florida. He was just approved for his transfer closer to me. WE won't know which one of the two he will get until he gets there, but it's kind of nice to know that real soon I won't have to drive 2 1/2 hours to see him every weekend.
Again, thank you for your replies.
angeltob 09-15-2004, 08:45 AM enchanting, We are all here for you and your support. These threads were merged so that everyone who has responded will see your gratitude. (((big hugs))) and welcome to PTO your best support system Nationally!
enchanting158 09-15-2004, 07:48 PM I have some really great news about Josh. BTW if any of you would like to know about his case just type in " Joshua Phillips" it will bring up a lot of links . His mom just contcted me to tell me that he has a hearing sceduled for October 14. That is awesome! Tonight when he calls I will tell him about it. He doesn't know yet. I will be attending the hearing. I'll let you all know when Oprah will be airing him, and what happens in the weeks to come.
Does anyone else here know a Juvenile with an unjust sentence? If so I know how it feels, and would love to chat with you sometime.

FrozenInMinn 09-20-2004, 10:04 PM I have a friend who also went in at age 14 and got a life sentence without the chance of parole and my best friend who was with him was 16 and got 261 years. (South Dakota) I mean they were both so young. Granted they knew what they did was wrong but to never give them another chance is absurd. An unjust sentence is what it is, This was vigilante justice at its best....
