Hi Amy,

Since you are the Mississippi Forum Leader, I thought I'd address this to you. My son is in the Tallahatchie Correctional Facility which houses the majority of the Hawaiians. Do you know anything about that facility? Just recently, my son just got put in the hole because of an "investigation" wherein they took a about 80 inmates to the hole. He is coming out this week (praying to God). I'm not sure if this is common in prison but do you know anything about that prison? Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Amy

I personally don't know anything about that facility. I don't think it has ever held Mississippi inmates, but I am not sure. Maybe someone will come along that can answer your questions and give you some information.

Hi HurtingMom,

The Tallahatchie facility is actually not a Mississippi DOC facility - it's owned by the private corrections company CCA - but that's OK, you can still post about it in the Mississippi or the Hawaii forum - since it is currently housing Hawaii prisoners it would actually be considered under contract with the Hawaii DOC so I am going to move this thread over there to the Hawaii forum...

My boyfriend was one of the Alabama prisoners housed there last year, he was there from last September to early February - I can probably answer most of the questions you may have. One thing I will say is it's a very nice facility (for a prison) and the staff there, for the most part, was wonderful - they really put some of the Alabama DOC employees and policies and procedures to shame, comparatively. I would say it's almost the perfect prison except for the lockdown time - when my guy was there they were locked down in their pods 22 hours a day and only outside 2 hours a day - and there weren't many activities/trades/etc. available at the time.... for the first several months everyone there seemed to do okay but after they had been there a few months I could tell the extended lockdown periods were not only getting to my guy but many others. Most of the Alabama guys came from an Alabama prison where there is freedom to go outside all the time and move about the camp, so the lockdown at Tallahatchie was really hard for them to adjust to and deal with.

The visitation procedures there are awesome - puts Alabama WAY to shame - and the food is very, very good, another big plus over Alabama prisons.

The hole is pretty regular punishment for various offenses all over the country, but it is a little unusual, I will admit, to hear of so many sent to the hole at once.

Again, any questions you may have about the facility, feel free to ask....

Lys

Thank you!My son is also in Tallahatchie. He said that it is better than Halawa which is the prison in Hawaii that he was transfered from in June. When he first arrived he was put into what they called the SHIP program which is really the hole. From what I understand they are in their cells for most of the day with only 1-2 hours of recreational time in what he described as a large dog pen. Once he was moved into General Population things have become much better. I have not heard of anything that has happened that would put 80 inmates into the hole but I will ask my son if he knows anything when he calls this week and let you know. If you would like to email me on my personal email address please feel free to do so, it is please pm member email addy rmvd per PTO policy. My thoughts are with you as I know that this is also a nightmare for us parents. Take Care.

Thank you Lys for the info. It sounds like being locked down is very common there. At least, I feel a little comfort knowing that it is. He's out of the hole now but inmates keep on getting put in the hole for "no apparent reason" as I was told. One will never know what goes on in there. It just drives me crazy with sleepless nights not to know the unknown. Thanks again.

THIS IS IN REPLY TO "HURTIN MOM" I'M A PAROLEE THAT DID MAJORITY OF MY TIME IN THE MAIN LAND FACILITIES. I DID OVER 5 YEARS. THE LAST 2 1/2 OF WHICH WAS IN THE HOLE FROM WHICH I FINNALY PAROLED FROM. I PROBABLY KNOW YOUR SON OR HE KNOWS ME. WHAT YOUR SON IS GOING THROUGH IS MASS PUNISHMENT AND TERROR TACTICS USED BY THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE FACILITY TO CONTROL THE INMATE POPULATION. THIS HAPPENS WHEN STAFF LOSES CONTROL OF THE FACILITY TO THE INMATES BECAUSE OF INCOMPETENT AND POORLY TRAINED OFFICERS. THEY PUNISH AN ABSURD AMOUNT OF PEOPLE FOR THE ACTIONS OF A FEW. THEY THEN USE A TICKET OUT OF THE HOLE IN RETURN FOR INFORMATION REGARDING OTHER INMATES.
IF ANYTHING HAWAII INMATES STICK TOGETHER ESPECIALLY SO FAR AWAY FROM HOME. THE INMATES SEE THE CROOKED WAY THINGS ARE RUN AND SO. THE INMATES WILL NOT COOPERATE. NOR SHOULD THEY. WE'RE THE ONES WHO HAVE TO HAVE TO LIVE THERE. IT'S OUR HOME. THEY JUST WORK THERE AND GO HOME WHEN THIER 9 TO 5 IS DONE. DON'T WORRY MOM. THEY WILL USUALLY RELEASE EVERY ONE AFTER 3 DAYS TO A WEEK. ONLY IN CASES OF A RIOT OR OTHER GREAT PROBLEMS THAT THE ADMIN WILL NOT RELEASE THE BOYS. STICK BY YOUR SON. HE NEEDS YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT AND SOLID ADVICE. THE ONLY SUPPORT HE HAS UP THERE IS WHAT FEW INMATES HE'LL MEET THAT WILL STEER HIM STRAIGHT. CERTAINLY NOT THE RENTA COPS THAT CALLTHEMSELVES " CORRECTIONS OFFICERS" WHO HAVE LESS TRAINING AND GET PAID LESS THAN THE GUARDS AT PEARLRIDGE.

Hi USOChino:

Thank you so much for replying! Finally, someone from the inside who has had experience! Reading your reply makes me feel better. I've been going through so much since he's there.. the worrying, the stress. I am right beside him. I'll always be here for him. He's been in the hole a few times and I haven't heard from him for a week now. I think he's in the hole again because I usually send him money to call me and he hasn't called. I pray to the Lord that he's safe.

Thank you again!

Dear USO from the islands, just wanted to thank you for all the information, that was so good to read you actually brought some joy but then some hurt because I didn't have clue of how bad the lockdown crap is. Anyways I use to be a SISTA if you know what I mean I lived in Hawaii for 10 yearsI married a native from there you probably know him then probably not, he was all caught up with the batu if you know what I mean which is why he is probably in Tallahatchie MS but hey who hasn't been caught up with that right? Well I the last time I saw my husband was in hawaii when I was living in Alewa Heights about 4 years ago and according to him and I we have come to the terms of divorce but it never happened, so not too long ago I got my act together and left the islands I needed family support and came back to my other home California, So I left without seeing my husband but when I got on that plane which was Oct 2003 I knew already tha he was in Halawa but as a week and half ago I found out he is in Mississippi in this facility called Tallahatchie Correctional Facility so as soon as I got all the numbers I called there and left my number for him to call and the very next day which was on saturday april 2nd. he called we talked briefly and really sucked because we had a lot of things to figure out, but there is no way anyone can when all you get is 5 min's. So whats the deal with the inmates using the phones there do they have to pay all the time or can they call collect? I would really appreciate for a little more info if you dont mind, you really have helped a lot of us in this forum and just want to let you know that it was greatly appreciated I felt all the aloha cuz lol. Oh yeah one more question when you get released do you get shipped back to the state or can someone pick you up from the correctional facility there in MS? I would appreciate it k? ALOHA AND MAHALO my brudda!!
Sincerely MissFemmeNu :p God Bless

Aloha, MissFemmeNu in Cali and welcome to PTO. I don't know too much about Tallahatchie Correctional Facility, as my guy did his time on-island. USOChino hasn't posted since January 2005 but I hope that he comes back to answer your questions or one of our other members might be able to help you.

I do know one thing about the mainland prisons. They do send them home when they get close to parole time. "When" is the operative word. My understanding is that it usually occurs when they have the staff to "escort" them back.

I hope that someone will be able to give you the answers you seek. Take care and feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Hi MissFemmeNu,

I want to congratulate you for starting over, packing up and leave with a fresh new start. I'm trying to have my daughter in law to live w/me but she is caught up in that batu.

Just commenting on the phone privileges. My son calls me constantly because I send him money for his phone time, however, they are allowed to call collect. Collect calls are exorbitant in the prison so I opt to just send him cash so that the collect call long distance bill does not excalate.

Hope this sort of helps.

Have a good day!

;) Hello everyone sending my wishes and prayers to all who are hurting over a family or friend member who is incarcerated. Anyways can anyone please get back to me if they know what kind of information do I have to fill out in the postal money order I send to an inmate at the Tallahatchie Facility? Thanks to whom ever replies.
God Bless you all:)

My husband was one of the Alabama inmates that was transfered to that facility in 2003. He was there almost a year. I don't know about the video visits. I know when he had visits it was for both Sat. and Sun all day visits. Of course that has been over 2 yrs ago and I am sure alot has changed over there. While he was there they had cable/satilite TV and he said the food was great because they had some place cater there food.

You need to contact the prison, and ask them for info on doing another visit.

You need to call Halawa and ask for the phone number for the mainland branch of PSD. They will give it to you. Depending on where you are visits are scheduled every month except for us on the big island and the other islands are once every 3 months.

Hey folks!

I am Jonathan the moderator for the Mississippi Forum here on PTO.

We know that many of your loved ones in California have been moved here to Mississippi, and most of them placed in TCCF or better known as Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility.

This prison is located in Tutwiler, MS

It opened in March of 2000 and is operated by Correctional Corporation of America.

It is located on 149 Acres and enclosed on 27 Acres.

The authorized Capacity is 1000+

TCCF Houses Class C Security Offenders

TCCF Is ACA Accredited as of September 2005

Programs that are offered:

Recreation

Faith Base
Alcohol and Drugs

The contact information for TCCF is:

259 U.S. Highway 49 South
Tutwiler, MS 38963
662-345-6567

Monday and Tuesday from 8am to 12pm and then from 1pm untill 5pm.

You must be on approved visitation list. If you are not on an approved visitation list you must call the California DOC and find out the procedure for getting added to the visitation list for that inmate.

The closet airport is Memphis, TN and you can fly into their and get a rental car and drive to Tutwiler. That is about a 1 1/2 hour drive from Memphis.

To send mail use the following;

Saulnme4ever, welcome to the Mississippi forum.
Some other CA folks have been making calls to TCCF and posting what they learn in this thread.
http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=287247

What Jonathan posted just above is all that is on MDOC site regarding TCCF.

Just read through all the threads in this subforum to get all we know.

As you learn more, please come and post for others going through the transfer process.

Google CCA and then select the link and it'll list various private institutions. Select TCCF.

Hey there im glad to be able to help u on this one;)
As far as the early release from what i know og and what i have heard is that it only applies to non-violent offenders and the ones that have medical issues and supposably it might apply to some inmates that have less than 3 years left from their sentence i will try to gather up more information and keep u posted:thumbsup:
The way to add money on his books is u go thru western union, u will need his commissary number if u dont have his number yet u could always call the prison and they will give it to u ;)
I hope i was able to help, if u have any more questions feel free to ask me :)

I was just there for the second time and wore jeans, so did my husband. I even asked and they said no problem as long as they are not the same color blue as the inmate. My jeans were faded and I wore a pretty black top. I did bring back ups in the car just in case they changed their minds. Any other color jean is fine. They dont want you to wear any cacky colors thou. The guards were all very very nice. We had a great visit!

Yeah the race riots are sad, my hubby has about 1yr1/2 left of the madness. He says the prison hasn't said anything, he told me to find out if there was any info online but I found nothing. I guess the riot happened in the pod across from him. He said he heard it was really bad.

Apparently it happened on the evening of 12/27/11 between the Blacks and Mexicans. There's no info online I looked everywhere lol! I heard it was pretty bad. I feel for anyone family whether Black or Mexican if their love one was seriously hurt or killed.

Has anyone heard any updated news about the riot and/or lock down at Tallahatchie? My bf said hes pretty sure this LD is going to last a while and for sure 2 people that he knows are STILL in the hospital. The guy that was stabbed is pretty much ok, just waiting for healing and he's hoping the one who was beat until he was unconscious is ok also. This is such a shame. Please keep them in your prayers.

If anyone get any info please share it with us. I'm pretty sure they're going to be on lock down for a few months. My poor baby has another 2 1/2 left of that b.s.

How can you work there and not know theyre on LD.....or was she trying to play a damn guessing secret game. Those people are so hush hush that its not even funny. All I was calling for was to see if the damn men can still get there quarterly packages and that heffa tells me to call back in an hour. Do they not want people to know they're on LD or what. Ugh !!! I'll be greatly happy when he gets out of prison, its VERY frustrating at times, especially when the C.O's want to be jerks....

We need to call the heads of this corporate prison (Bobby Phillips or Kenneth Little) and let them know that every human being has the right to safety at 662.345.6567.... also call Matthew Cates, the head of the California Department of Correction and Rehabilitation and let him know that he is still responsible for the California prisoners housed outside of the state at 916.323.6001.... do YOUR PART PLEASE 4 OUR MEN!!

Hi ladies, just an FYI to help ease the stress: no one really ever knows how long a LD is going to last, not even the warden.
Due to a lawsuit & human rights violations CDCR is staying away from long lockdowns & doing "modified program" if you see the pattern the last year or so with the CCA riots in different facilities the full lockdowns have lasted about 2 months and then modified program is enforced.
Slowly they give priviledges back. When my husband was transferred from Ironwood to CCA facilities years I joined PTO & read a lot of people posting similar comments like " I heard" & "this one is going to be a long lockdown" all that speculation only amounts to unnecessary stress on us & our loved ones. Always stay positive. Again long lockdowns can lead to lawsuits.

Just wanted to share some info with u ladies my man gave me and share a link but I cant cuz im new on this site.... please go to unprison.com for info on the lockdown/riot...

They are being served breakfast, lunch and dinner all before 1:30pm (their time).... the guards there are only armed with mace, no batons or anything because the facility is basically there to create jobs for the people who live there, meaning they arent trained like here in Cali.

I called because I sent an expensive item thru amazon to him and tracking said delivered 12/19 but he hadnt received it, so after getting the runaround I talked to this RUDE woman and explained that i thought the item was lost or something cuz he hadnt received it. She looked up the info and said "It's here... WHY would you think it's lost????" Ummmmm.... cuz its been 3 weeks!!!!! (wtf?) But i didnt say that, i just said cuz he hasnt received it. She said he would get it on Thursday, all packages n mail (if it has been examined) will go out on Thursday.

Things are pretty bad there right now and there is no media involvement or anything.... :-/

I just heard from my husband in TCCF, he was moved into NB from the hole last week. They are searching the cells very thoroughly. Putting the guys on X-ray. They have been going very slow. The RUMOR is that this is so they can extend the l.d. For as long ad possible. Also, no one was killed in the riot. People were hurt very badly but, no one was killed. It's a shame how CCF has/is handling this whole sutuation.

Oh yea and theyre searching the cells very very often, which is what they shouldve been doing a long time ago imo.....

Yeah the mail is going slow since its the "only" way of communication to the outside
and the guys are writing....
they are backed up cuz they have to read word by word on every letter
since they think thats how they gonna find out info about the riot...
They figure that the guys will write something
and they'll have some kind of info... :blah:

I dont think it will be possible for u to see your man this month or the next, they are currently on lockdown and I believe its going to be for a minute, from what my hubby tells me. Regular visiting is Fri, Sat & Sun but for now they are only giving 1 of those days depending on race, so its not even worth the trip right now. I hope that changes soon though. Hey Ladies, first off, it's a big ass bummer that they are all way the hell out there. I want to go see my loved one too. I think that by the time all of this passes I might be able to get out there and see him...It's been a while. For those of you that have gone, could you share your experience with the rest of us. As far as what you were able to wear. lol I wanna look cute when I see him but I know that staff hates on the ladies that have more curves. So if you did wear something cute was it a breeze to get through? Or did they make you have to change your outfit? It's a silly question because really what matters is your visit, not so much how you look, but I figure you ladies seem pretty cool so if anyone wants to speak on their experience or perhaps share it when they return, it would be very much appreciated. Enjoy your visit! Thank you!

Hello! I just found this site today and I am so happy to find YOU! I'm in SD Cali and my Beloved is in Tallahatchie. I am planning a visit for the end of May. I am new to all of this and I've been reading everyone's posts (soaking it up like a sponge!). Whats the best way to get hotel, flight, car? I called the facility for visiting requirements & info and they were very helpful. I asked about sending a bday gift. They said I could send a cd from amazon.com as long as it was new and not used. They said to call back in April to schedule my visit for May. I am already approved yay! My beloved is eligible for transfer back to Cali and has filed the request. We haven't heard anything and then the lock down happened! I've been sending letters but no answer yet. I've learned so much from this web site! Hi ladies, my husband is endorsed to be transfered to TCCF next month, and I am already doing the travel expenses reasearch, I just wanted to know what it the best TCCF threads to subscribe to for more information and updates? What is the deal with the visits? Also is there an Inmate Family Council? I tried starting one at RRCC but never had 10 people to start one. I have emailed CDCR about family visits for out of state inmates & starting the IFC is one of the first steps. I am VERY hands on with my husband's unfortunate incarceration. Hi There! I'm still learning how to navigate around this site. Its a little confusing for me because there are so many "threads". I spend an entire day reading everyone's posts. It was a great experience! In just a few days I went from excitement to heart break.:sad&blue: As I was researching and planning my trip, my beloved wrote and said that he no longer wanted a relationship. Appearantly my daughter spoke with our friend that is there with my beloved and bad mouthed me. She does not approve of my relationship and said the most hurtful things! So my beloved believed the exagerations and said I was a bad mother and bad Christian. I didn't get very far in the planning stages because I had to ask for time off from work and get the approval. I did ask Greyhound and they do have a discount if you plan your trip in advance but it takes 2 days to get there! I have AAA and you can get a discount on flight, hotel, and car. I found info on another thread but for the life of me can't find it. I wrote it all down but threw it away when I got the break up letter. IF I do get the info again, I will post it. Or if you happen to get info before then, can you please post? I am praying for a miracle. I know he is angry at me and believing the worst in me. I don't know if the TRUTH will ever come out. Til then I'm on my knees.

I think it's illegal to segregate visits, I am going to look more into the legalities of it. My husband is going to be transferred there any day now & I would like to see all races have equal visit hours & days.

Hi, I just saw the most recent post. You are correct about the illegal segregation as far as lock downs. I suggest that you look into the prisoners law firm in Berkeley Ca. They have some very important press releases and info on unconstitutional lockdowns. I think that we need to be aware of these issues and I'm very glad that you care about this. I do too, yet it is very frustrating that we feel helpless do to the circumstances. We should be reaching out to these legal support systems because our loved ones cannot.

:)

P.S. big shout out to HisQueenB as she will be visiting her man this weekend. I hope all goes well for her and her man. May she get there safely and may her visit be special.

Somewhat helpless perhaps, but knowledge is power. So I read a lot. I think I have contacted that law firm before. I usually don't start my research until it affects my husband & I. Since he's going to MS we were talking about this race separation for visits at TCCF. Our freedom of speech entitles us to address our concerns to CDCR as long as they are valid. Trust me as soon as my husband is on that bus I'm going to be on it like white on rice! There is nothing I wouldn't do for my husband's incarceration be as comfortable as his rights permit. DOM, Title 15 & the Contract Agreement as well as Google guide me through every step.

I can't wait to read how your visits went! I'm sick of RRCC & how messed up they are!
My husband bumped into a mean CO in yard & the CO took him to the hole for assault! I filed a complaint against that Officer & RRCC with CDCR & they said they will expedite the transfer to MS.
Thank God that his celly & his friends wife notified me the same day! Well I can't wait to hear about today & hope & pray you have the best day with your husband!

Today was one of the happiest days I've had in a very very long time...getting to hug and kiss my husband after all this time....now that I'm headed home I can't stop crying...the further I get from him the more it hurts me....I just want to scream at the bus driver and tell him to take me back....this is so hard :/

But, don't be sad though... Remember that your visit also ment the world to him. Look forward to the letters that he'll write telling you how great it was to see you! :) smile.

Im glad u finally got to see him! Its has been a year that Ive seen my hubby! Its was a year on Feb 28th :( but I am only waiting for this lockdown to end so I could finally go see him! I NEED to see him already, reading your anticipation to see him only takes me back to a year ago...when I had the same emotion and I can only place myself in my hotel room, getting ready & finally holding him kissing him....aww man! I miss him but Im very happy for u! Where u the only one in visit? did they trip on kissing or hugging?

Going to visit my hunny at tccf.! It's going to be hot!!! I need help picking out outfits. What color jeans are we not allowed to wear? Light blue? Dark dark blue? Is white jeans ok? I was thinking on wearing a dress you know the fitted casual dresses that go down to the ankle..it's really cute.! It's red and long but it is fitted but the straps are about 1 1/2 almost 2 inches..do you think they would allow it? As far as shoes can we wear sandals? Flats? I need help.!!

Well, I dont know if you had the visit already but...no blue jeans. light or dark. Any other color is ok. White is fine. I wear black skinny jeans. Tight...it doesnt matter as long as they are jeans. Maxi dresses are ok. Just in case take a little jacket or sweater No sandals but flats are okay.

This thread was started quite a few years ago, and there are many different issues addressed in this thread. In trying to clean up the forums, this thread is now closed. Please see the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility - Mississippi - Out of State Transfers (http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=1257) forum and post in the appropriate thread(s) there. There's GREAT info in the Stickys at the top of the forum. Thanks!
