Has anyone used abebooks.com to send books to prisons? I found the link on the Half-Price Books web site... I did a search and I'm finding tons of books for just a dollar!! Some appear to be used, but they're coming from real stores...
I'm wondering if the fact that they're used is going to be a problem. I'll probably call the prison and ask them anyway before I order some, but I've got a huge "basket" full of books for only $25 including shipping! I thought I'd ask if anyone has tried it before...

ABEbooks is a really good sight! My sister owns a used bookstore and she sells through there too. When you order through them, you're actually buying from one of many used bookstores. So it's usually much easier to get a response from someone who will understand the special mailing requests. Just make sure that the mailing address shows the exact way that it should be mailed. Also, there's usually a place for you to inquire directly to the bookseller. If your prison has specific rules, like must have a book stamp or no receipts included with book, etc...they can do that. I know that my sister has shipped to several different prisons and hasn't heard of any problems yet.
Best of luck!

I also like the site ABEbooks.com. I have ordered books from there before, but I would check first before I send any to the prison your loved one is at. Where my son is they only allow new books and they must come with some sort of receipt or invoice. I have sent him books thru Amazon and he received them with no problems. Hope this helps. Karen
