My boyfriend will be home in another 7 months. I have redone all of the rooms in the house except for the bedroom. I want to make it more romantic, sexier, and fun for when he gets home. Any ideas?

Gosh, do you want it romantic, sexier or fun ?? Not sure you can mix everything....for instance I'm not sure hand made lace curtains and bed covers, together with mirrors on the ceiling and an Xbox will match..... :D

LMAO, Phil...I swear, you crack me up!!!

Flecky, what colors are you thinking of? Think soft, both in colors and fabrics. I just painted my bedroom, in a medium shade of periwinkle. The accent colors are a dark lilac and sage green...it's so relaxing ;)

I like "cottage" style, myself...nothing more romantic than an antique white iron bed, piled high with pillows and comforters, clear glass vases filled with wildflowers, hand stitched linens on the dresser....and sheer, breezy curtains.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the idea Irisheyes. Phil you are too funny. I think if I put my mind to it I could create a style that has all of the elements I describe besides the Xbox. I would never see romance if an xbox was put into the bedroom. The mirrors on the ceiling sound great.

I like alot of soft, plush pillows and candles.

LOL @ Phil!!

I'm in the middle of redoing my bedroom too. I've only started but I have a zillion ideas that go through my head everyday. I'm going for Medievil Gothic...think kinda like all the rooms from the movie Interview With A Vampire. My guy loves dragons and swords, I like Victorian. So I thought this would be a good middle ground.....and ultra sexy of course ;)

Here's some of my basic ideas....

Lot's of pleasing fabrics. Think velvet, satin, silk, lace, tapestry. And layer them everywhere you can think of. And it's really not all that expensive. Use really cheap fabric for curtains and such. Then you can spend more money on the ritzy fabrics in smaller amounts.

Like doing throw pillows in one of every kind of fabric. And you only have to cover the front of the pillow. That's like 1/2 a yard per pillow at the most! And stick witch is an iron on glue that you can use instead of sewing so it's so easy. If you find a fabric that is really beautiful to you, then frame a piece of it and hang it on the wall for art.

Candle holders. Go to most dollar type stores and you will find many different candalabra type holders. It doesn't matter what color they are because you can always spray paint them to match whatever color you want. Another dollar store idea, buy the really cheap fake roses, pull the petals off, and toss the petals on your dresser or nite stands or just have some in a basket.

And for the really brave....take closeup pics of yourself with a digital camera. Then crop them off at odd places (like cut off half your face, so that only half of you is still there). Then take them to an image program and turn them into black & white, then just frame them. I've done mine 5X7 and put them in an 8X7 black frame w/white matt. They look gallery sexy. And I've left a few blank frames on the wall so that when my husband comes home I can put his picks up too.

I better stop before I keep going all night on this....lol. Good luck with your room and just remember, the sexiest thing in there is going to be you in his eyes :)

My guess is that you two won't even see the bedroom till round # 3 or 4. The XBox is for him to something else while you get the feeling back in your legs so you won't have to crawl to the bathroom.:D

I'd ditch the silk sheets for the simple reason that "traction" is severly reduced and we(men) look pretty silly looking like Fred Flintstone trying to run up a silk pastel hill trying to get back to the Promised land.

Black walls, girly posters, Snap-On stickers, Harley posters, and the smell of sawdust would do it for me, but every man is differant.

LMAO at Fred Flinstone!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, I so needed that laugh. Thank you :)

My husband actually wants silk sheets but now I'm gonna be laughing every time and that's really gonna cramp his self esteem. Poor guy.....lololol.

I"m glad you liked that. When it happened to me it wasn't funny, is was frustrating. I think that most of the problem was a unbaffled waterbed and beer, but I could be wrong.:) Silk does feel nice but for "play time" I prefer flannel.

P.S. I fixed my slipping problem by putting my boots back on.:D

I'll have to take these tips myself -LOL, But I won't be needing them for a while :( Good Luck and enjoy when your man gets home!

a nice pastel color is good, if you can pull your bed out and corner it in the room put tall plants behind the bed, maybe a (black)sheer drape from ceilling to each side behind the bed, a nice large pillow top on bed, with silk sheets, and big fluffy pillows, the day he comes home rose petals all over the bed, with maybe some wine and glasses on a side table with roses or what ever flower he or you like.Or how about the leopard style bedroom you can set it up the same way, just with the leopard bedspreads and curtians and paint the room white with leopard style accents. good luck i know i am late on this thread maybe you have all ready did something.

Thank you all for the ideas. Cuban I really like your idea regarding the tall plants behind the bed. My bedroom is currently done in leopard, and I want to try something new. All your ideas have gotten my creative juices flowing. If you have any more let me know.

Textures that make you want to touch them. Flowing thingies. Lace and velvet.

Flecky, I forgot to mention putting a small light shinning on the plants it looks very cool and give the room a very relaxing cozy feeling. it would work with the leopard look as well just work around the colors, but don't keep it all dark, good luck lets us know how you do it .

Need help on this one.....I have always wanted a lacy, romantic, sexy bedroom. However - how do you incorporate two BIG dogs (a black lab and a chocolate lab) and several cats that sleep on the bed w/me into that picture???? I love those white eyelet or goose down comforters and all those pillows stacked up behind. Now picture a 100# wet, muddy black lab rolling around on top of it 'cuz he's excited about coming in from a run outdoors! I know, I know - one or the other, right? It can remain the barnyard that it is, or out w/the dogs and in w/the romantic linens. I love sleeping w/my dogs though and I'm afraid they would never understand the concept of staying out of my room or even off my bed! They'd scratch my bedroom door down first! Any ideas?

One of the best themes I ever saw on a decorating show was when a decorator themed the whole bedroom around a woman's bra & panty set. They were black with little pink roses. She painted all the furniture black and the walls pink. Bedding pink with ruffle bedskirt and pillows. And then accented with rose knick knacks everywhere. She even made a headboard with pink roses glued on the corners. And to top it all off, she framed the bra & panties and hung them on the wall, LOL.

It was ultra sexy.....and cheap! You could do something like that too with your favorite colors and use more durable fabric for your bedding. Just keep the lace for your windows, lamp shades, and table tops :)

Phil-you are so funny!

I've heard from several different sources (sleep research studies) that you SHOULD NOT put a TV in your bedroom. The only things that should be in your bedroom should be related to sleep. Things like computers, tv's, work out equipment are all distracting to you and take your mind off relaxing and restful (and romantic! ) thoughts. (Sorry Phil-there goes the x-box! :( )

Mixing alot of textures is always cool. Think about what he likes when doing this, ie: medievel, country, outdoors, modern. You have to consider what you & he both will be most comfortable in. Lots of candles, of course! And my guy would say lots of mirrors, too, but that may make some uncomfortable!

I've always thought this would look cool: If you don't have a four poster bed, then put little hooks in the ceiling at each of the corners of the bed and hang a round metal ring from it. Then drape sheer fabric from ring to ring and hanging down some. You could even hide christmas lights in the folds of the fabric. Just an idea.

Good luck!

try a feather mattress on the top of your bed it makes it so you just sink down into it.and maybe for your headboard put a fish tank as long as your head broad just to turn on the little light above the tank. or have some candles behind it along with some in each corner of the room. have your bath tub filled with real red rose padles, with two champian glass's near there, with some good wine. something nice in the air to smell, some good music playing and an outfit or two laid accross the bed.with some good lotions, for a rub down after you get out of the tub. I could go on and on but good luck my man comes home in 2 months 15 days

Personally, I would ask him what he would like the room to be like when he comes home. Get some of his ideas and then elaborate on them. I am sure he already has fantasies on how he would like it to be. Regardless of what he says, candles, candles and more candles.......... the light and flickering they give off are always romantic and sexy..............how much longer until he gets there? Best of luck :)

Ditto on the candles, mosquito nets are so sexy and CHEAP (check on ebay) and come in other colors besides white, and don't forget a scarf in some shade of red or pink to throw over the lamp to give the room and your skin a rosy glow! I love the little white Xmas lights in a ficus or some other tall plant. With the lamp and candles it will have a great atmosphere no matter what else you do! Hey- how old is this thread????

Ok this post is way old, I think this person's husband is already home. She said he was coming home in 7 months in 2004 here we are in 2007  Anyway for those who are expecting their loved ones home soon, if it were me I would want to do sexy. Make the room just cozy from painting, new curtains nice duvet covers and nice sheets lots of candles. I would want him to walk into our room and think this is heaven

My pets are not allowed on my bed. However. You really cannot have both. Either the nice bedding or the dogs. The nice bedding will get all nasty and torn up by the dogs.

Ok so even though this thread is old maybe we can get some new ideas out there. I like the asian themes but I have a super small bedroom. I have no clue on what to do. Right now a full size bed barely fits a queen will fit but you have to stand on it to get into the closet lol.

Sadie80

At this point, I would be satisfied with having a man in my bedroom again for once.

For those that have loved ones coming home. How about long silk curtains and bedspread or silk like material. Candles and pillows to make it look like a hotel feeling as if you'd never want to leave it. Also colors that are soothing and relaxing.

Her is a few good advice from a man. Spend more money on the bed and don't forget to spend a little on some sexy clothes for your self. Trust me, every man really loves that. Unfortunately we sometimes don't really notice the collars and the small things such as pillows. I'm sorry but that's also why the house is the woman’s domain.
A good long comforter is also a thing we really like. Collars and stuff like pillows is more a women thing, I tried but I failed that one big time..
Have a great weekend

Helllloooo...What about the stripper pole? Doesn't that fulfill all of those needs?

Okay for more realistic ideas...I saw a decorating show where they painted the room and decorated in all jewel tones. I think the walls were a dark purple, the bed had a pretty silk screen hanging from it and lots of pillows, candles and soft rugs. Music is always good in my book too.
