My son is at Centinela. We can only send pre stamped envelopes from the post office. There are no more packages allowed. You have to get a vendors form from your loved one. Then follow the guidelines listed. You can also send money orders but they keep 55% for restitution. You can send lined paper for him to write on. No typing paper. No colored paper. If you write to him, he can tell you the exact requirements. It seems like they are always changing. You can mail the paper in a large envelope but be sure there are no metal prongs on it. I tear them off and then tape the flap closed.
Good luck. When he can call the calls are all collect and they use MCI. Be sure your phone company bills for them or the calls won't go through.
I hope this helps.

Centinela has a quarterly package program, similar to all prisons in California. You can either obtain an order form your family member, or you can order directly over the internet with one of three vendors. If you call the Receiving and Release Sergeant, he (Sgt. Zaragoza) or his staff can provide you with the e-mail addresses. The catalogue unique to Centinela is also availabe at the vendors web-site. We are in the final month of the 3rd quarter for package ordering.
The second response is accurate regarding stamps. You must send embossed stamped envelopes into the institution. Although restituion is scheudled to reach 55% it is not currently at this rate.
I have found that most of my questions have been quickly answered by the supervisors who work in the Mailrroom, Receiving and Release, and the Visiting room.
