Hello all! My names Karen and im new to this. My boyfriend has been in prison at Yuma since July. Im having a hard time because after his sentence here he has to be extradited to Memphis Tennesse on a Detainer for possession of a controlled substance w/intent to manuf/sell/deliver. Does anyone know how to go about getting legal help when you have no money? He has a bond for 3500.00 and keeps telling me not to worry because he just pays the 350.00 to the bailbondsman and then theyll release him. Does anyone know the possible setence he could get or if its likely hed be released on bail? Thanks Karen

I don't know what effect the extradition might have on bail I do know they must give him free legal help, no matter where, if he is broke- but it isn't likely to be GREAT legal help unless you get very very lucky. Welcome to PTO! we'll help all we can

Hi Karon and welcome to PTO! I am real sorry to hear about your boyfriend.I know the bail will be 10% of 3500.00 but he might need something for collateral also sometimes they take the deed to your house or your car for callateral it depends on the bail bonds company you might try calling a few just to get an idea.
Good luck girl hang in there!

Hi Karen ... MyGuy is in Yuma - Cheyenne Unit .. just got moved there in the last couple weeks ... he says it SUCKS ... I'm sick with stress because I can't see him .. they have him in lockdown ... visits are on days I work ... it's horrid.
We have a threat of extradition too .. but not likely .. they just want $540 in fines from us .. which I'll pay to keep them from extraditing him ... BUT ... I'm confused with your post ... IF he's already serving a sentence ... I fear they won't release him .. bond or otherwise .... once this sentence is done .. they'll place a hold on him ... until TN comes to get him .. or makes arrangements to have him sent there ....
Yes .. he needs to request an attorney for this new charge ... ASAP ... so maybe it can be diverted and they don't move him.
Welcome to PTO ... this is a wonderful site ... great people who have great advice and lots of help .... I'm sure someone will have some solid advice.
Meantime ... hang int here ... I know it's tough .. but for each day that passes it's one less we have to wait.

Welcome...I also think you should contact a bondsman. I would in the credit card industry and I often see customers chrage the bail to their credit cards, so that could possibly be another option. I do agree with MissingMyGuy, they may not release him if TN is waiting for him. Definitely have him request legal rep. to give him this advise and direct him where he needs to go. He may be getting his info from his CO III and may not be correct info. Good luck to you both and again, welcome.
