View Full Version : What's on YOUR menu?
*Johnny's Angel* 09-01-2004, 08:35 AM I was just wondering what everyone is chosing to eat here. Is it low carbs, low calories, high protein?
MY day begins with a simple peice of fruit, either an apple or a plum.
I drink water throughout the day, and if Im bad I'm gonna have a glass of Minute Made Tropical Punch.
For lunch I eat either a smart meal from weight watchers, soup, or I cut up several veggies like peppers onion cucumbers and mix it with red wine vinegar.
For dinner I eat a small portion of whatever My mom cooks (and i mean small) if its a little bowl of chili, if its chicken and veggies. I basically don't eat a lot at all for dinner.
Today for breakfast i had a plum,
for lunch im gonna have a chicken and rigatoni with broccoli dinner from weight watchers
and dinner im having Chicken with veggies
Ive been goin to the gym for 5 days a week (somethign new) and today I weigh in at 126.
Maybe we can do this weekly or something? Do ur menu from Mon- Sun and state your progress that way you can always go back and take a look at what you were doing when u had the most progress what do u all think??
Woody's Girl 09-01-2004, 09:29 AM 1) breakfast- maybe a pan sausage and the egg whites, take the yellow out. and sometimes, maybe just watermelon.
2) for lunch - i eat either a can of tunafish and 5-7 saltine crackers or a BIG salad. 3) for dinner, i eat baked fish, or chicken, or boiled chicken.
4) for a late night snack (if i need it) its always watermelon.

lunch- cup of veggies. salad with either chopped ham or bacon bits and 2 tps of djon dressing. yoguart also 1 (lean) hot pocket.
dinner- more veggies, 1 cup of fruit. maybe a ham sandwhich with fat free cheese and wheat bread.

Jasons, please tell me that is not your daily intake, or even the limit for each meal. That is not enough!
I'm going to tell you the biggest and best secret of weight loss. When I follow it (combined with exercise), the weight slides off. When I try to "get around it" by eating less, the scale doesn't move.
Think of your body like a car. What happens when you get really low on gas? It doesn't run right, sputtering and skipping.....well, that's exactly what your body does, too. If your body's not getting enough "fuel" (food), it just won't run right, and that includes being able to "burn off" the extra weight.
By not eating enough (or much worse, skipping meals), all you are doing is interfering with, and most likely lowering, your body's metabolism. That, in turn, will make the calories you DO take in stick like glue, because your system is protecting yourself by going into "starvation mode".
Basically, the body has certain built-in defense mechanisms, and this is one of them. When you don't take in enough calories (and that means a certain amount of fat as well), your system "shuts down", as a means of self-preservation. Everyone's body is different, and processes caloric intake in its own way, but this is a fact of evolution, and applies to each of us.
So Jasons, be sure to get enough fat in your diet....we do need some fat to fight off disease, and have healthy hair, nails and skin.
Both times I have lost large amounts of weight (181 lbs. in 1995-96) and now (55 lbs. since May), I've done a lowfat diet, combined with cardio and strength training....and I rarely eat below 30 fat grams per day. Anything less than that, and my body's "engine" won't run efficiently enough to burn off the excess weight!
irisheyes66 09-01-2004, 10:53 AM As for my menu.....
For breakfast, I usually have a small (4-6 oz.) glass of either OJ or cranberry juice, a cup of low-fat yogurt, and a bagel with light cream cheese (very little, as I don't digest dairy well). Another staple is cereal, high-fiber and low in sugar...maybe with some sliced bananas or peaches on top.
Lunch is something quick to prepare, mainly a Lean Cuisine or Healthy Choice entree, coupled with a small salad (fat-free dressing) and one slice of light bread with no butter. During the day I am involved in getting this place fixed up, so I tend to make lunches that are satisfying, but easy to put together in a few minutes.
For dinner, I like Boca Burgers....I'll fry up an onion in butter-flavored cooking spray, cook the burger in the same pan, and top it off with some green relish and a big slice of tomato. On the side, I'll have some Baked Lays potato chips, a dill pickle, maybe even some low-fat coleslaw.
Or, I'll have a piece of baked fish, some baby peas, and a decent helping of rice pilaf (made with very little butter), and a small salad. The other night I was in the middle of painting my dining room, LOL, so I opened a can of fat-free turkey chili, and had that with some light saltines and a small salad.
For snacks, I like fat-free Fiddle Faddle, Baked Lays chips, green grapes, fat-free chocolate pudding, or low-fat strawberry fruit bars (made by Little Debbie, of all things!).
I'm fairly limited in my dining choices right now, as my kitchen is still empty; all my pans, utensils, and dishes are still packed in my garage from when I arrived in Kansas. I have to paint the entire room, and didn't want to move things twice, so....until that's done, I have to buy foods that are easy to prepare (read: no pans or serving dishes, LOL).
*Johnny's Angel* 09-01-2004, 10:58 AM I have a question Susan...what the heck are Boca Burgers????????
I've been a vegitarian for almost 10 years. I love tofu, I eat salads, veggies, veggie burgers, pastas, and lots of bean dishes. Boca Burgers are meatless soy/veggie burgers. They're pretty good, my ex-husband who was all about eating meat, actually liked them.
irisheyes66 09-01-2004, 11:08 AM They're an alternative from regular burgers made with ground beef....basically, made from ingredients like soy, wheat gluten, skim milk cheese, wheat germ, etc. They look like a normal burger, but the texture and consistency are different. I never thought I'd eat a "soy burger", LOL, but I actually love them! You have to be sure to fry them a while, so they're not mushy or soggy in the middle.
They are in the frozen foods section, where the breakfast sausage is....I've tried all the brands (MorningStar Farms, Chef's Pantry, Gardenburger), and I like Boca Burgers the best. They are lowest in fat (read labels, because some soy burgers have as much as 9 grams of fat--you can have a McD's burger for that!), have the best texture, and a good variety of flavors (Roasted Garlic, Flame Grilled, Vegetable, Mushroom, etc.)
Try them...I think you'll be surprised ;)
*Johnny's Angel* 09-01-2004, 11:14 AM Ok I am willing to try them the better be good!!!!!!
I really like the Morningstar Farms Spicy black bean burgers and the tomato basil pizza burgers are good too.
jeffsprincess 09-01-2004, 11:24 AM i have never been a breakfast person. my breakfast usally is just coffee. well my eating habits have definetely changed since ive been trying to get my bulimia under control.
breakfast - coffee and sometimes a banana.
lunch - a harvest bar (made by power bar)
dinner - mesculin salad mix with sprouts, beans, portabello mushrooms and balsamic vinegar. sometimes i have tofu or a piece of grilled fish. now, my body cant handle a lot of food so i have to eat really light and slow or else i will end up in the bathroom, and i dont want to go there!!
i go to the gym like 5 days a week and do atleast 45 minutes of cardio. i also play tennis atleast 3 days a week.
Jasonslite 09-01-2004, 12:33 PM Susan,
Sorry, I should have said that goes for what ever I eat. Say my yoguart is 2 grams, milk 2grams veggies etc. I just try not to go over 10grams on one paticular item. I can not "crash diet" anything and I would pass out from going into shock. I know that from my stand point I can not just quit eating what I like so I am just trying to take out some of the 'fat' and 'calories' that comes with what I eat. I cannot digest sweets very well anymore (i miss chocolate) so I don't eat them as much that is about the only thing I have took out of my diet, plus not so much caffiene.
Oscar714 09-01-2004, 07:14 PM I have cereal every single morning, it is one of the first things I do when I wake up. I love multigrain cherios, special k red berries, and huney bunches of oats with almonds, all with skim milk. For lunch, it depends on the day, for today I had a veggie delite from subway and a bottle of water. And it is supper time now, and that is when I like to eat my protien, less carbs, so it's lots of vegetables, either cut and eaten raw, or in a home made vegetable soup or a salad, with protien of some sort and a piece of fruit. I don't snack. I have my 3 times a day that I eat, and I make sure I am eating foods that will satisfy me, so I am not lingering aroung the kitchen for myself to be tempted and .....oops.... eat everyhting in sight. I work out a lot, but I don't eat like a horse because I exercise.
My Dad always tells me there is two different ways to eat : you either eat to live, or you live to eat.
I use to live to eat, not anymore. I love food, the meaning has just taken on a different signifigance in my life.
There is a lot of healthy food out there, so we need not be bored with our options.
VARIETY will prevent bordem.
hrevene 09-01-2004, 07:30 PM I drink a slimfast for breakfast, salad or soup for lunch, water to drink and
flavored rice cakes for snack. I cut back on carbs. That really does help.
billyspincess07 09-03-2004, 06:34 PM I Cant Make Myself Eat Breakfast-it Makes Me Sick So I Usually Just Have Coffee. Lunch Is Very Rare Cause Im Usually Working Or At School All Day And Just Too Busy. I Might Grab A Granola Bar Or Some Fruit. Dinner Is Usually An Egg White Omlet Or A Vegie Burger.
Tracy68 09-06-2004, 08:21 AM BREAFAST.....2/3 coffees
