Speaking of the BOP Watch group....so far I have read 2 times that people writing asking about another possible change.

I don't ahve it to reference now...but it was asked if anyone knew about a change that money orders will ahve to be sent to a location in Georgia for federal inmates.

I did write him asking him if he had heard anything like this....but I was wondering if anyone else had heard anything. Or if you'd ask your loved ones and see what we can find out.

Happy Holidays!

here is all info from ********. Actually no one has the answer. Only these two posts dealt with this...nothing definite as far as I can tell. My son said he had not been notified of any change...but the BOP usually waits til the last possible minute to notify anyone of changes.

Here are the posts:
Hello Fellow List Mates:

Today I spoke by telephone with a friend who is in a federal prison camp in Bryan, Texas. She said that they have been notified that, as of 6-Jan-03, they will no longer be allowed to receive money sent from friends on the outside at their specific facility. All money, she said, must go to a centralized location in Atlanta. It will there go into an account upon which each inmate can draw the amount posted in their name.

On the surface, this looks like a benefit to the inmate. An inmate transferred from one institution to another would stand no chance of losing contact with his or her money. However, in an account at a private bank, that would be one very large account that would draw top dollar in interest, or attract a very large bid for the right to manage the account.

Has anyone else heard of the new procedure? Do you have thoughts on the process? Hubert

In the Oregon state prison system, the interest from inmate accounts must be used for programs to benefit the inmates themselves or for recreational activities (movies, etc.) for inmates. Does the BOP have a similar policy? T. Hedin

that is all the info I have right now.
