Hi sweet...and welcome to PTO!

16 to life means your friend will do at least 16 years before a chance for parole. I can't speak for Cali laws, but here in Kansas, my fiance (also with a murder charge) had a choice between 15-life, and what they call "The Hard 40" (no parole). He took his chances with the 15-life, and will see the board in just over 7 years.

Even with a murder charge, we're hoping he only gets flopped once or twice...but you never know, life may mean just that..."life".

Just something for you to think about.

Susan has it right... here in Cali he will be up for parole in 16 years and whether he gets out will depend on his record, the politic of the time... under Gov Davis lifers were almost NEVER paroled, now that it changing because the prisons are getting too crowded and there is a little bit of reform maybe happening in Sacramento.

Welcome by the way, my friend has 26 to life.
