Hello,

I am sure you've probably heard this question a million times. From reading the posts I get the impression that those on deathrow can make phonecalls ? I have a friend on deathrow at San Quentin, and would love to talk to him on the phone. :D Our only contact is through mail and asking these kinds of questions take so long....

I live in Canada...and was wondering how one goes about a phone call. Presumably he'd have to call me. Or can I call him? Is collect call the best way to go? Or is it better to send a calling card or something ?

thanks for the help

I'm moving this thread to the California forum, since each state has different rules. Hopefully, someone will soon pop in and give you the answer. :)

yes deathrow inmates can make calls only collect thru mci. no calling cards are accepted at any state prison here in california. all calls must be made collect. collect calls are 15 minutes each and i assume they vary in cost depending on the place the call is made to. i talk to my DR guy everyother day and his calls are only $3.75 a piece.

My husband calls me also thru mci collect. For a 15 minute call it ususally runs around $6. Sometimes we talk a minute or two less and then the call is a few cents less.

Thanks all for the reply. I found my answers. Collect calls only as you all said. And I had to call MCI to get my number unblocked...and make it available to accept collect calls from a correctional facility. The number I was given to contact was 1-800-231-0193. Be prepared for a long wait...it took close to an hour speak to a representative. You can also call this number to have your home phone blocked if you don't want to receive calls any longer.
