Kerry I can't tell you for sure, but even it is a $1.00 a minute, there ususally is a connection fee...anywhere from $.99 to 4.95 or more.
What you can do is call your provider who you receive service from on your cell and ask home much the charges are for a collect phone call from the United States. You'll probably give them the location where you penpal is and then your location. You should be able to get a pretty close estimate this way!
Good Luck!

Hello,
i'm sorry,i didn't put it right, but he doesn't call collect...he uses his phone account money to call me.it just seems wrong, when i hear how much calls are, and he claims it's only about a dollar a minute ( cellphone too! ).i already called my provider, but they were no help, because they just don't know anything about US phone charges.
thanks for your quick answer

I may be able to help you figure out how much these calls are going to cost you.
If you cell phone is a germany number and you have a germany plan then when he calls you it would be just like any other in coming call. I am not familar with how the plans work in Germany so I can not give you any specifics. I believe you would only be using your local minutes.
If your cell phone is a USA number and a USA plan then the cost would be determined by your cell phone provider. You will need to ask them what the roaming rates would be for Germandy.
Remember he is not calling collect, he is calling direct and when he calls in this manner, his call is just like any other in comming call.
I hope this helps you.
