Hi Munch, the differences between low and medium security are probably different in CA and IL. I do know that it means specific changes of privileges, etc. When my son was on level 2 in Il he had very little freedom. When he was moved to a lower security level 4, he could walk from one area in the prison to another without a Co escort. He goes to yard 3 times a day if he wants, rather than once or twice a week.

I guess the transfer to medium was wrong they've switched the prison to a low, but the BOP still shows medium. I guess they don't update the BOP very quickly. But thanks for the info, much appreciated. Michelle

Anybody know anything about D5 at HDSP? What level and how long he might be there...in-between reception and fire camp. I'm still not approved, haven't got MCI's block off my phone yet, and I'm afraid he'll be shipped off for training before I get to talk to or see him ... and how long in training before I might be able to visit him? Aaargh!!!

JenNjohn, if he is in D5, all that means is he is on D yard and in building 5. I believe that D5 is level 4, if I am not mistaken. You can call the prison at (530) 251-5100 listen carefully to the recording and they will give you an 800#. Call that number and ask for the visiting Sgt., sometimes they will give you some info. You have filled out the visiting form and mailed it back in correct? Make sure you explain your circumstances to him, and let him also know your concerns. Now as far as how long he will be there they will not give you that info for security reasons is what I have been told. Risks?????
Take a deep breath and relax -- hopefully everything will work out fine for the two of you.
Have you spoke to someone at MCI about the block on your line??.
I will keep you and him in my prayers. You can pm me anytime!!
