Regarding Delta Camp Experience:

I hadn't talked to my guy for 18 days! He finally called today! It's not the first time!! They are out A LOT and it's barely even fire season yet!

The other thing that's been frustrating is that for the last 3 weeks, they've gone on big fires on Fridays!!! So I've only seen him twice since he's been there! UGH!

They get their new release date after they get there.

As far as Visiting, here's what I know so far:

Surprisingly the list of CAN'TS is not that bad!

Here are the NO NO's:

1. No Glass

2. No Home-cooked, prepared, or packaged ANYTHING!

3. Nothing that is not sealed (example: fountain drinks)

4. He can not take anything back to the dorm with him from visiting - no left overs, cigs,.... NOTHING

5. Then the obvious stuff, no drugs, alcohol, etc...duh!!

That's about it except some other Do's and Don'ts:

Everything must come from a "vendor" (i.e. the grocery store, drive thru) - Just before the end of town on HWY 12, There's an Albertsons, McDonalds, Carls Jr, Popeye's Chicken and I think a Taco Bell and Burger King. Oh and a pizza place on the right along hwy 12 (before all the other places - "Marina Pizza" or something like that).

You may bring a cooler or whatever filled with ice, drinks, steaks etc. <Remember No Glass>

There are BBQ's for your use, bring only "Matchlight" charcoal - No Lighter Fluid (don't forget a lighter)

Don't forget to bring utensils to turn the meat, seasonings and condiments, plates, plasticwear, napkins, snacks, dessert, etc.

There is a microwave but that's it! Oh and access to drinking water - but nothing is provided! There are no napkins, no condiments...no nothing!

Bring cards or something to do if you want it - Nothing available there.

The kids can bring their toys and games! Nothing remote controlled, noisy, or that talks though. Balls or frisbees are discouraged as they travel outside the visitor area into the road where the trucks are etc.

The visiting area is SMALL...I hear it's one of the smallest. It's less than half the size of Susanville inside and less than half the outside space too. But, the good thing is, it doesn't seem to pack out. I've never seen no seating, the crews are always rotating shifts, so there's plenty of room.

There is no laying in the grass like Susanville (I found out the hard way and it's not listed in the rules they give you)

Smoking is permitted so you are allowed to bring your cigs and lighter and yes you can share with your visitee, but during visiting only.

Same dress code as Susanville they say, but I don't think they're too picky as long as you're not see thru or falling out of anything. IT'S HOT THERE!!!!!!!

No Metal Detectors, so boobs get a break!!!! Yippeeee!

Oh, and don't forget to call before you start getting ready in the morning and before you leave!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I've driven all the way there, once only to see them load up and leave and once only to give him a hug and turn around and leave because they got a fire call while we were walking toward each other to say hello!

Be prepared for him to have to leave at anytime during your visit and you'll be excused right after him, so be packing up while he's getting ready to leave too!

That's all I can think of.....did I miss anything?

Good Luck!

Wow sorry to hear all your No No's glad my husband is not there . We can take anything we like. Except the Glass containers and drugs of course. We are allowed to take home made food or anything else. The kids have a ball and the camp has 5 dogs the kids play with. The visiting area is very large and never crowded. The dress code is also very laid back. Co's never come out to check on us. BTW he's at Pilot Rock near Hesperia.

Oh the can also take can all the drinks and food back with them. I have bought plenty of steaks before and they took it back to the kitchen and cooked it just before the Laker game. Ahhh Almost like being at home.

I was wondering if you knew how long it was before yours started his PFT after he got to camp? Was he in Susanville? John got sent there a month ago, and he still hasn't had his physical or started the PFT. All he really knows is that he'll have to run a mile in 8 1/2 minutes or less for 5 days in a row. If he can't pass the tests, will he go back to High Desert? That's what a friend of mine currently in E yard at HDSP told me.

Thank you for helping,

Jen

No, they absolutely will not. No expired anything. They're so strict that when my driver's license was stolen recently, I went to the DMV and got a temp paper w/photo from and they wouldn't take it! I even had my birth certificate AND they had a copy of my permanent license from before it was stolen!! We even had to postpone our marriage on October 2, because my replacement license had not come in the mail from the DMV yet! Now we have to wait until Nov 20th!!!! So there ya go, you could always call, but I say when pigs fly! sorry

Call Baseline directly, explain your situation and see what they say. Some camps are not as strict as others. Have you been there before?
Some people have described a camp expercience here that I can not even imagine. Try it and see what happens. Good luck to you.
